    Thomas Arnold was born in 1649 and died in King Gerorge County VA

between December 27, 1725 and May 6, 1726. His will, dated December 27,

1725 is recorded in King George County Will Book A-1. His estate was

settled in King George County  May 6, 1726.  He married Grace ------.

Grace died before March 2, 1732.

    Thomas Arnold was listed on a January 13, 1669 deed as being a

Resident of Sittingbourn parish in Rappahannock County VA. Their

plantation became part of Richmond County VA when that count was formed

in 1692 and became part of King George County when it was formed in

1720.

    Isaac Arnold, a son of Thomas and Grace Arnold, was born in

Rappahannock County VA about 1685 and died in King George County

Va in 1758.  In his will, dated September 15, 1757, he states that he is

from Hanover Parish in King George County VA.

    He married Margaret Goffe in 1707.  Margaret, a daughter of Thomas

Goffe, died in King George County about 1719.

    After Margaret died, Isaac married Mary -------. Mary's will is

dated March 4, 1775.

father made and indenture in Hanover Parish of King County in Va May 3,

1733 conveying Isaac Arnold's real estate to Thomas on his father's

death.

    Humphrey Arnold, a son of Thomas and Mary Arnold, was born in VA

about 1730 and died in Fauquier County VA between July 4, 1789 and

December 1790. He married Harriet Ann Smith.

    Apparently, two Arnold families with similar names passed through WV

at about the same time period. "The History of West Virginia" states

that the Humphrey Arnold family left Chester County PA about 1765, with

the parents and Isaac going to Harrison County VA and sons Jonathan,

Andrew and Jesse going to Greene County PA. This is a dirrerent Humphrey

Arnold family, since Humphrey and his wife, parents and children are

documeted in VA deeds and land records.

     George Arnold, a son of James Arnold, was born in 1765  He

married Elizabeth Roanna Prunty.  Elizabeth was a daughter of John and

Mary Prunty.  Elizabeth died in 1804. George then married Nancy

Coleman on February 17, 1805. George was land surveyor in Lewis,

Braxton, and Gilmer counties. He patented a tract of land owned by

Lewis Bennett and sold it to Standard Oil company.  He was Justice of

Peace prior to 1800 in Harrison county.  He was sheriff in Harrison

county in 1811.

     Simon Arnold, a son of James Arnold, was born in Rockbridge

County VA in September 1768 and died September 16, 1854. He is buried

on Rooting Creek, Pleasant Hill, Harrison County, WV. He married

Prudence Webb in Harrison County VA (WV) January 19, 1805. Prudence, a

daughter of Rev. Benjamin and Sarah Webb, was born October 19, 1784 and

died April 30, 1872.

married Jemima Jackson February 7, 1792. Jemima, a daughter of Edward

and Martha (Miller) Jackson, was born in New Jersey January 5, 1775

and died in Harrison County VA (WV) in 1828. After John's death,

Jemima married Amon Bohannon Rice in 1816.

by the Chancery records of the Superior Court of Fredricksburg, VA in

the case of Arnold vs. Arnold in the 1820's and 1830's.

(McCulloch) Hays, was born in Harrison County October 30,  1794 and

died March 17, 1871. After Roanna's death Samuel married Nancy Covert

October 13, 1842 and married Emma Hand Fletcher for his third wife.

County PA March 5, 1813.  The family moved to the Independence, MO area

between 1870 and 1868.

born in Harrison County Va (WV) about 1803.  He married Anna Nichols.

Anna, a daughter of Levan and Margaret (Mace) Nichols, was born about

1803 and died in 1849 or 1850.  Three children were listed in the 1850

Gilmer County census, but the youngest would have been an infant and

in another household.

    James married Virginia McLaughlin April 8, 1856 in Calhoun

County.

      Elijah Arnold, a son of Isaac and Mary (Porter) Arnold, was born

in Faquier County VA in 1771 and died in Lewis County VA December 8,

1849.  He married Prudence J. Jackson in Muskingum County OH March 31,

1814. Prudence, a daughter of George and Elizabeth (Brake) Jackson, was

born in Harrison County VA (WV) Janaury 25, 1789 and died in Lewis

County VA June 21, 1855.

    In March 1813, Elijah made the following deed a gift to Prudence:

".. that I, Elijah Arnold, of Forquor (Fauquier) County, and State of

Virginia. For and in consideration of the mutual love and affection

which I bear to Miss Prudence Jackson, a daughter of Colonel George

Jackson, of the State of Ohio, have given and granted and by these

presents do give and grant unto the said Prudence Jackson, ... the

following property: One half interest in merchant mill and land, ...

dwelling house and four acres.'

   After December 1825, Elijah lost his large estate. He had been going

security for relatives and friends and was obliged to pay their debts.

Everything was lost, even the property of the deeded gift to his wife,

Prudence. She was never able to recover anything.

    In 1827, they moved to Clarksburg. About 1830, they moved to

"Collins Settlement" where they built a two-story log house. This log

house was whitewashed and called by the settlers for miles around the

"Big White House." A village soon sprang up; and, in 1858, the name was

changed to Jacksonville.

     Jacob Reger Arnold, a son of Isaac and Mary "Polly" (Flesher)

Arnold, was born in Lewis County VA November 8, 1830 or May 8, 1831 and

died in Grant County, OK September 7, 1909.  He married Margaret Hagle

Bush in Gilmer County VA December 12, 1852. Margaret, a daughter of

Paulcer and Mary Elizabeth (Heckert) Bush, was born in Lewis County Va

(WV) May 13, 1834 and died in Ellsworth County, KS October 13, 1880. 

    Jacob married Edith (Colscott) Osborn Elk County KS November 7,

1881.  Edith was born in Hamilton County OH February 2, 1855 and died in

Grant County OK January 30, 1930.

    Jacob served the Union in the Civil War.  He enlisted in Co C 9th

W.Va. Volunteer Infantry at Ravenswood, VA (WV) in October 1861.  He

re enlisted in January 1864 and was discharged in July 1865.

    George Jackson Arnold, a son of Elijah and Prudence J. (Jackson)

Arnold, was born in Culpepper County VA March 16, 1816 and died in Lewis

County WV September 26, 1899. George was admitted to the bar in 1848 and

began a law practice in Weston, VA (WV). He was elected Prosecuting

Attorney of Lewis County in 1852 and again in 1856. He was elected to

the VA legislature in 1861.

    George went to Whelling as a delegate to "The Restored Government of

Virginia" in 1861 and was on teh Committee to form a new state. He

drafted the bill the formed the new State of West Virginia.

    He served in the WV House of Delegates in 1878.

    George married Angeline "Anna" Swick in Mason County IL August 3,

1865. Angeline was born Julyu 21, 1847 and died in Lewis County December

1, 1887.

    George was reportedly the father of three children before he was

married.

    William was admitted to the bar in Lewis County VA and granted a

license to practice law in 1845. He was elected to the VA legislature in

1857 and reelected in 1859. He was elected to the WV legislature in

1876.

      Van married Mary E. Wilmoth in Gilmer County September 17, 1902.Mary, daughter of Charles W. and Jemimah (Snider) Wilmoth, was born in Gilmer county in March 1885.

      Van married a widow, Verona (Miller) Wilmoth, in Gilmer County July 23, 1907. Verona, a daughter of OF George W. and Sarah Miller, was born in Gilmer County in August 1883. She married Walter Wilmoth in Gilmer county August 10, 1905. Walter died in December 1905.
