1.FRANKLIN BATES

 

    Franklin Bates, a son of William and Catherine (Crist) Bates, was

born July 20, 1826, probably in Fayette County VA (WV) and died at

Andersonville, GA in June 1864.

    Franklin married Elizabeth Kessler in Fayette County Va

January 25, 1849.  Elizabeth was born in May 1829 and died in Roane

County in October 1872.  The family moved from Fayette County and

settled in Roane County VA (WV) about 1857.

    Franklin served the Union in the Civil War in Co F. 11th W.Va.

Volunteer Infantry.  He was captured at Bulltown, Braxton County VA

and transferred to Libby Prison in Richmond, VA and then to

Andersonville, GA, where he died.

4.JOHN H. BATES     1.FRANKLIN BATES

 

    John H. Bates, a son of Franklin and Elizabeth (Kessler) Bates,

was born in Fayette County VA November 17, 1853.  He married Fluvanna

McClung March 4, 1872.  Fluvanna, a daughter of Mortimer and Mary

(O'Dell) McClung, was born July 3, 1856.

15.TALMADGE BATES     4.JOHN H. BATES     1.FRANKLIN BATES

 

    Talmadge Bates, a son of John H. and Fluvanna (McClung) Bates, was

born in Roane County WV July 11, 1886 and died in 1946.  He married

Lula Summers March 4, 1909.  Lula, a daughter of John and Katherine

(McKinney) Summers, was born February 15, 1891 and died in Roane

County in 1953.

   1.FRANKLIN BATES

 

    Harry Hamilton Bates, a son of Talmadge and Lula (Summers) Bates,

was born in Roane County WV February 18, 1916 and died in Roane County WV Augsut 16, 2005.  Harry made a career of the US Navy, enlisting in 1935 and retiring in 1955. He married Pearl Batton February 15, 1944.  Pearl, a daughter of William and Anna (Haught) Batton was born February 23, 1916.
