Charles Black, a son of Winfield Scott and Eleanor Black, was bron in Gilmer Country WV in June 1881. He married Orpha F. Messenger in Gilmer County September 9, 1906. Orpha, a daughter of Benjamin S. and Victoria Messenger, was born in Gilmer County in December 1884.

Deward R. Black, a son of Charles and Orpha (Messenger) Black, was born in Gilmer County WV June 24, 1909 and died there February 16, 2006. He married Ruby M. Norman September 4, 1933 in Gilmer country WV.  Ruby, a daughter of Elmore Dodson and Ethel (Radabaugh) Norman, was born in Gilmer County WV about 1913 and died February 5, 1999.
