- I am searching for information on Henry HINZMAN, son of
Henry and Charity(COON) HINZMAN. The information that I have
says he was born on March 20, 1803 and that he married Mary STARCHER,

Henry's will, but no where do I find any record of his death or burial. I am a
descendent of his son Thomas C. HINZMAN who married Christiana
HENLINE who moved to Jackson County, WV. There is a story in
our family that says that Henry, Jr. killed a man in a dispute over a line fence
and had to leave Lewis county hurriedly! Does anyone there know of this?
Where did he go? From a deed dated September 1865, I know that Henry HINZMAN,
Jr has died, because it states that "since the making of the said
contract, the said Henry
HINZMAN, father of the said Thomas HINZMAN ,
as also the said John J.
HINZMAN, Have departed this life." Any clues? Thank

- John C. WOODYARD m. Hanna LEE; Sgt.
Major Henley WOODYARD m. Sara WISEMAN; Elza
WOODYARD m. Perry GAWTHROP. Locations:
Wood County, WV and Pruntytown, Taylor County, WV Dates: 1844, 1874-1939 (Don't
know anything between 1844 and 1874) What I would like to know is this: 1.
Hanna LEE was the sister of Gen. Henry "Light-Horse Harry" LEE.
So Elza Woodyard Gawthrop was Robert E. Lee's second cousin. Are there any
members that have information on the Lee family that might help us figure out
who Perry GAWTHROP or Sara WISEMAN was? 2.
Is there a history of Light-Horse Harry that delves into his family line, that
someone can point me to? 3. Sgt Maj. WOODYARD served in the
War of 1812, are there records from that war that might show his spouse perhaps?
4. Elza Woodyard Gawthrop also reportedly had a Great-Uncle that was a leading
figure in the American Revolution, who that was I don't know. Paternal,
Maternal? WOODYARD, LEE, WISEMAN, GAWTHROP?

- My GGgrandmother was Evaline AIREY (AIRY)
b. ca. 1833 at Ireland, Lewis Co., WVa. She married William BROWN b. 1824 at
Greenbrier Co., WVa. They were married in Greenbrier Co., 14 Mar 1850, and are
shown on the census there. I was hoping that her parents or some relatives would
be in Lewis Co., but guess they had moved on. I don't know who her parents
were, but could possibly have been Charles
AIREY and Unknown HAMMER? The AIREY family
migrated, I believe, from Maryland to WVa., and there were quite a few of them
around Greenbrier, etc., on the 1850 census. There was also a Cutlip AIREY at
one point in history, so I would assume the AIREY's and
CUTLIP families got together somewhere along the line.

1849 Abner HESS, d 3 Feb 1908, Hartford City, IN Edward/John
? WARD (1764-1863/Iowa), was the father of either 10 or 14 children, depending
on which obituary of three of his daughters you read. All three obits say each
of the daughters was born in Clarksburg. Although it is proven that the three
girls were sisters, two name the father as Edward and that of the youngest names
the parents as John WARD and Nancy SHAUL.
The girls were all born between 1805 and 1810. Only once in the 99 years of his
life does Edward appear on the census - in 1820 in Champaign County, OH; ca
1827 he was gound guilty of insolvency anad sent to jail for his debts for a few
years. These, and his tombstone in Iowa, are the only proofs of this man's
existence. There is also a claim that he served in the War of 1812. We have
been unable to locate him on any muster roll in either (W)V or Ohio. He is not
on any land tax records or tithables in Harrison County, 1782-1800. I've check
the South Branch counties and Rockingham County where allied families of his
children were - NOTHING. He is NOT on the tax lists 1800-1810 in Harrison
County, VA. Allied families include ELLSWORTH, RICHARDS, RUNYON, SHAUL
AND RAGAN - families which lived in the West Milford-Good Hope area of
Harrison. Portions of all these families later moved to Champaign County, OH.
Research indicates that he is not of the William WARD family,
also of the same area. Nor does he appear to be connected to the Israel WARD
family. There is a Cornelius WARD in the same area of
Harrison on the tithables sporadically 1782-1791. Also a Cornelius WARD
on land tax records in Hardy County, (W)V, during the same period. Father and
son???? Same person running back and forth across the mountians? Who was
Cornelius? Could he have been Edward/John's father? There is also an Abijah
WARD in Harrison County who married Rhoda DENHAM, d/o John, in
1786. Any clues to who he might be?? A John WARD m. Sophia
REGEN/REGAN 28 Apr 1777 in Harrison County. Edward WARD
had a daughter named Sophia. Might this be the "real" name
of Edward? Who was this John WARD? Also who was William
WARD, father of Nancy WARD, who m. Peter
SHAUL in 1808 in Harrison County? What connection, if any,
might he have had to Nancy SHAUL mentioned in the obituary of the daughter of
Edward/John? Also, there appears to be a connection between these WARD
families and John and Cornelius LYON. Any assistance with
any of these problems would be greatly appreciated. Although this is not my
line, I have spent considerable time over the past several years trying to solve
this problem for a friend.

in Wood County (probably in what is now Ritchie County). Jeremiah and Nancy
had at least seven children: Leroy; Jack; Hiram; Wesley m. Frances FLEMING;
Susan Jane m Lewis Simpson FLEMING; Mary; and Jemima. I
suspect, but cannot prove, that Nancy was a daughter of Jacob PRUNTY

- Does anyone own, know of a copy, or have seen a copy of the book,
The Scottish Nation, a series of biographies of Scottish
families? It was written by William Anderson in 1876, reprinted several times,
and is currently on sale for $37.50. I won't buy a book until I've seen it. I
am looking for Volume M in particular (obviously for reference to surname
MONEYPENNY). I just need to know if it includes our surname
and is worth the cost. Libraries here don't have it.

- Seek pars. of Catherine WILLIAMS, b. 1780, m. David J.MAXWELL,

County 1850 census, age 70, living with her son Thomas MAXWELL.
She is also in the 1860 census still living with Thomas at ae 82. She is not
listed int he 1870 census so apparently died between 1860 & 70. However I
can find no death record for her. She is listed as a member of the Enon Baptist
Church in 1857. I can find no gravestone in the Enon Cemetery on Tunnel Hill
for either Catherine or David. Does anyone know who she might be??

- Seek parents of Aaron McDANIEL b. in Barbour Co, (W)V in
1822. . He married Satira GLASSCOCK 8 March 1845 They
purchased a farm on Valley River, (W)V in 1857 and sold same in 1864 when they
moved to Butler, MO. They had eight children all but the last two were born in
(W)V. They were: Bruce 1844, Octavious 1850, Dewitt 1852, Bud 1853,Matilda
1859, Samuel 1863, and Lorenzo and Harriette who were born in Missouri in 1866
and 1871 respectively. Aaron must have been very close to Abraham McDANIEL
because in 1882 they gave a power of attorney to him to collect any moneys due
them in Barbour County. In tracing Abraham back he was born in 1824, the son of
Samuel McDANIEL, b. 1794, d. 1851 but Samuel did not have a
son named Aaron. Samuel, in turn, was the son of David who, according to the
article published by the Taylor County Historical and Genealogical Society in
1986, lived in the stone house area near the Tygart Dam and operated the ferry.
In another article entitled "Barbour County Another Look" published
in 1979 #975.459 13239 on Murl McDANIEL: David McDANIEL moved
into the stone house on the Tygart River in 1791 with his then, sons William,
Abraham, and Aaron. David ran the McDaniel Ferry across the Tygart River. I am
fairly certain that my great grandfather Aaron McDaniel, born in 1822 is
somehow tied into this line and the stone house near the Tygart Dam, but I
can't find out how. Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated

Loyette Harding, b 17 Apr 1869; Cora Estaline, b 26 Apr 1871; Marsha Dory
Selesta, b 29 May 1873 ; Laura, b Dec 1875 I am particularly interested in
information about Rachel Jane EDMOND. Her parents?? We know
that she received a parcel of land in Highland County, Va from Jacob EDMOND
when he sold off the homestead properties in 1851 that his father Thomas
EDMOND had deeded to him in a 1835 will. His father married a
second wife, Jane CURRY, who had children from a previous
marriage. These children were not named in Thomas's will, but he stipulated that
they should be cared for until they reached age. The fact that she received
land and is not listed among the family in earlier census data led me to assume
that Rachel was a step-daughter of Thomas EDMOND and the
daughter of Jane CURRY EDMOND. I have considerable
information about the EDMAN family that I am willing to share.
