Hawaii Queries

Please feel free to enter a query for your lines in Hawaii. If your lines are not in Hawaii, please do not enter a query here.

If you know which island or county you are looking in, please say so in the text of your query. If you do not know which island or county, please state that. Queries for a specific place will appear on that county's query page. General Hawaii queries of unknown location will appear on the state query page. You may be contacted for more information. Please do not indicate more than 1 county in your query unless the people involved really were in those places, and then be sure to state this fact in the text of your query. Please leave your true name and correct e-mail address.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a genealogical query service only. We cannot accept any queries regarding adoptions, divorces, missing persons, or similar issues occuring after 1950. Thank you for your understanding.

We are already having quite a problem with submitted queries. If you know the county where the event in question took place, please indicate only that county. If you do not know where in Hawaii the event took place, indicate unknown. Incomplete or "spammed" queries will either be placed where I see fit, based on the information provided, or will be discarded.

My name is Donna Regina LINDSEY, and my father is Donald Reginald Lindsey (natural son of Stella Lindsey deMattos Schmitt, and adopted son of Stella's older brother, George M. and his wife, Thelma Lulu Lindsey) from the big island. My mother and father divorced when I was just a baby, and the last time I was in touch with my father was my high school graduation in 1985. I am hoping that someone might have information regarding his current whereabouts. I have reason to believe he is still on the main- land, perhaps near Fresno, CA. If you can help, please e-mail me at the address above. Thank you very much!

I am searching for the ancestors of Basilio Borrelli (my paternal grandfather) born in San Juan, Puerto Rico 15 Jul 1891 and died Aug 1981 in San Francisco. Basilio and two brothers migrated to Hawaii early 1900s. When they arrived in Hawaii, each of the 3 brothers spelled his surname different. We are not sure what the correct spelling of the family surname is. Basilio met and married Pola Santiago. Basilio was Pola's second husband, she already had a daughter named Annie and a son named Ben. They moved to Vallejo, CA and later to San Francisco, CA. Basilio & Pola had 6 more children, George, Alcilio, Amelia, Marian, Daniel, and Delores. Basilio's father was Isidro Borrelli (sp?) and his mother was Juana M. Perez.

I am updating the charts in The Mau Lineage by Edward Seu Chen Mau (my father) which was published by UH Press in 1990. I am especially interested in information about women who were born MAU or MOW, their spouses, children, grandchildren, etc. The MAU and MOW immigrants settled primarily in Honolulu and Maui Counties. There were some MAU on Kauai who may also be related. I am also interested in maternal relatives with surnames HISANAGA, TAKEMOTO, SEKIOKA. They settled primarily in Hawaii, Kauai, and Honolulu counties.

SMITH, Catherine M. Unknown Island, possibly Oahu. I am looking for information about "Miss Catherine M. Smith" whose name appears as the addessee on a Sept 27, 1837 issue of the Hawaiian language newspaper "Ke Kumu Hawaii". I know that a Reverend Lowell Smith was one of the 5th company of missionaries, who arrived in Honolulu 1 May 1833. I assume some connection between Lowell and Catherine, but that may not be the case.

Looking for the Portuguese Family of JOAQUIN FERARA DE SOUZA and MARIA TRESA TECHADA OR TUCHER. Family history states they left Maderia, Portugal and landed somewhere in Hawaii. They had the following children,Mary, Alvina, Amelia, Cora, Virginia, Manuel and Augusta. We know for a fact that Cora was born in Hawaii. Every year until her death she received flowers from Hawaii. She was born before Hawaii became a state. I do not know her exact birthdate, it may have been June 1892. Her siblings were born around 1881-1892 or so. Family history states that the Ferara de Souza family owned a pineapple plantation. Its exact location is unknown. Perhaps a brother of Joaquin Ferara or Maria Tresa Techada. The family left Hawaii and relocated to Folsom, California. According to the Census of 1920 it showed that the family immigrated around 1887 and Mary may have followed her husband in 1889. Supposedly other Ferara family members are still living in Hawaii today. JOAQUIN FERARA ! DE SOUZA was also known as JOAQUIN F. ASSENCAO. MARIA TRESA TECHADA may have had other family living in Hawaii She was also known a MARY TUCHER. Other Tucher family names are Anthony James, Albert Joseph, Wilma and Elizabeth. Unfortunately this is all I known about this family. I do not know what ship they came in on. I do not know when they were married in Hawaii or in the Maderia Islands. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Jean P.S. When the family settled in Folsom they became the Ferara and Tucher families dropping the last part of their names (ie. de Souza)
