Aloha!
This
page will tell a little bit about me and About
Me About the webmaster Sandy
AKA "scarletgen"
Many have asked
where I came up with "scarletgen". Well it all started when I lived in
Baltimore, MD, the summer just before I graduated high school and my best
friend and I were sitting at a railroad track with a beautiful view of the
city. We were fumbling on deciding a CB radio handle for me as that was
the hobby we were into. She mentioned a local band named "Scarlet Angel".
Well that stuck with me and "Scarletangel" became my CB
handle. A few years
later I married and we had three children, having met my husband on the
CB, I was thankful to have had that hobby but the hubby and I left that
hobby behind. I am a customer service representative at a call
center for our local cable company and the hubby is into
law-enforcement. Since the coming
of the Internet (Thank you Microsoft) I have taken up this new and very
interesting hobby of Genealogy and Family History. Since then I have
replaced the "Angel" with gen for genealogy. My hubby has taken on
the hobby of online gaming. How does my
genealogy relate to Hawaii? My grandparents and their immigrated from Vélez-Málaga aboard the S.S.
Heliopolis. The ship
with Departed Malaga, Spain March 10, 1907 arrived Honolulu, Hawaii April
26, 1907. I have heard there were many passengers which changed
their mind after the ship had already departed and the ship turned around
and took those who decided to forfit and return to their native
country. My grandparents stuck it out with the ship being under very
dirty and crowded conditions. My grandparents were Jose Antonio
Fernandez & his wife Juana Sachez Sachez journied with their 5
daughers and one son ranging in ages from 3 months - 10 yrs. I have
heard from one of my cousin that they lost their youngest daughter Isabel
3 months while aboard the ship. Grandpa worked
on the sugarcane fields in Kauai County according to census, but according
to my cousin he worked in the Pineapple fields, I must do more research on
this matter. Grandma decided
she wanted to leave everything behind and journey to California as she had
heard the weather was similar to that of her native county, Spain.
Grandpa sold out and by 1913 the family settled by the bay area in
Northern California. My father was born in San Francisco Jan
1914.

on (which have nothing to do with Hawaii or the GenWeb) are
