Appanoose County Art Prints by Richard Dutton - These wonderful Appanoose County prints were originally done in 1978 by former Centerville Resident and Indian Hills Community College art instructor Richard Dutton.   Each print is numbered and signed by the artist.  They feature the 100-year-old Drake Free Public Library, the Dale Church, a collage of various coal mines in Appanoose County,  #9—an interurban car of the Southern Iowa Railway, and the home of Squire Wadlington, the first prominent businessman and politician of the county.  Don’t pass up the opportunity to include these pieces of Appanoose County history to your collection!......Set of 5 prints for $25.00

Drag Day - at Centerville, was an event when contestants with teams pulled heavy drags.  Dirt streets rutted by horses and wagon wheels were made smooth again.


Our Museum, the former Post Office, built in 1903.

 

 

Electric streetcar in front of the Continental Hotel - Electric streetcars began operation in Centerville Iowa in 1904.  In 1910, passenger service was added to Mystic, and in 1914, the Albia line was purchased and electrified.

 

Panoramic view of the square, including the Appanoose County Courthouse - The cost of the Courthouse in Centerville was $75,000.  The cornerstone of this limestone building was laid May 21, 1903.
