During the 1976 Bicentennial celebration local historians decided to research all the cemeteries in Buchanan County while the pioneer tombstones were still legible. This turned into a lengthy project and the book " Buchanan County , Iowa , Cemeteries, 1980" was published. The Buchanan County Genealogical Society was formed as a branch of the Buchanan County Historical Society. Since that time thousands of obituary/cemetery cards have been filed and are being updated each month. Inquiries for family research are answered by the volunteer members. Our library is staffed entirely by volunteers who help researchers when they visit the library, the fee is 30 cents per copy. Research may also be done by mail, the fee is $10.00 per hour to do the genealogical research and 30 cents per copy.

Meetings are the third Monday of each month at 2:30 p.m. There is no meeting in December. Visitors are always welcome to attend the meetings.
