Starting today August 15, 2013 our office will be closed for any type of research, in person and through the mail as we are locked out of the office. The crews have started Asbestoses removal from our office area. This project should be done by the middle of September.

During the 1976 Bicentennial celebration local historians decided to research all the
while the pioneer tombstones were still legible. This turned into a lengthy project and the book "
, Cemeteries, 1980" was published. The Buchanan County Genealogical Society was formed as a branch of the Buchanan County Historical Society. Since that time thousands of obituary/cemetery cards have been filed and are being updated each month. Inquiries for family research are answered by the volunteer members. Our library is staffed entirely by volunteers who help researchers when they visit the library, the fee is 30 cents per copy. Research may also be done by mail, the fee is $10.00 per hour to do the genealogical research and 30 cents per copy.
