History of Boone County, Iowa E Unless otherwise noted, biographies submitted by Dick Barton. Epperson, J. R., retired merchant, Boone; among the early
settlers and successful business men of Boone county, may be mentioned the
subject of this brief sketch, who was born in Bartholomew county, Indiana, on
the 3d day of June, 1829; he was principally raised in Clay county, and lived
there until he came to this county in 1852; he learned the tanner and currier
trade in his youth, and had experience in farming; in 1853 he ran the first
steam saw mill in the county, and continued the business for four years; he then
engaged in the grocery business; in 1871 he was elected treasurer of the county
and held the office two years; he married Miss Cynthia Gildea, in February,
1852; she was born in Harrison county, Indiana; they have one son: Edward B.;
lost one daughter: Eva.
