SMALLEY, R. F., farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 10; P. O. Boone; was born in Illinois, December 12, 1842, and at the age of six years moved with his parents to Ohio; in the spring of 1854 he came to Iowa and remained in this State until 1857, when he moved to Missouri; three months later he returned to Iowa and commenced school, and in 1862 commenced farming; the year following he went to Minnesota, there followed farming, and in 1867 came to this county, where he got a position as teamster; in 1869 he bought a fine farm of 120 acres of well improved land; he was married in Boone, March 23, 1868, to Miss Ellen E. Bentley; they have two children: Albert R. and Emma.

Sterrett, Samuel M., farmer; Sec. 21; P. O. Mineral Ridge; was born in Tippecanoe, Indiana, in the year 1835, and was raised there and made it his home up to the time that he came to this county, in the fall of 1865; he also received his early education in the schools of that State; since he came to this county he has been engaged in agricultural pursuits; his farm consists of 396 acres; he has held the office of township supervisor and is the present incumbent of the office of trustee; he has been twice married: first in this State, August 21, 1859, to Miss Mary J. Dawkins, of Kentucky, who died January 14, 1869, and left three children: Tolitha J., Celista A. and Margaret E.; was married a second time in this county to Miss Minnie Baker, daughter of Joel Maker; they have by this union a family of three children: May, Sarah and Robert L.
