In April 1887 the monument was erected under the direction of Captain R P Speer, GB Van Saun and PS Robinson, assisted by old soldiers in the new (Fairview) Cemetery.
The scotch marble monument is placed on a three-foot base and rises up to 12 feet 4 inches in height.
