About the Clayton County Genealogical Society

*We will have published over 10,000 pages of compiled history by end of 2003! Check out our publications!

*Published a "Cemetery Location" booklet featuring all of the 160-plus cemeteries in Clayton County.

*Published two editions of the Clayton County Surname Index, that has been laced in every Clayton County library, IGS, and surrounding counties.
*Sponsored the Everton Publsihers Genealogical Workshop in May 1986,
with Gay and Albert Kowallis of Utah, an audience of 86 persons.

*Held the "first" northeast Iowa Regional Genealogical Society Seminar,
November 1987,with Professor Eldon Knuth of California. Over 200 people attended.

*Organized a Cemetery Preservation Slide Show in September 1989, presented by Paul Maddy. Approximately 200 people were present.

*Held a seminar by Prof. Eldon Knuth, on the verification of Karl Wiedow
as Jurnjakob Swehn regarding the infamous German letters from Iowa
farmers to J. Gillhoff, teacher of Glaisin, Mecklenburg. At Clayton
Center, 1997. We hosted 3 photographers from Mecklenburg (Germany) area at this seminar, displaying their photos.

*Hosted Udo Baarch, President of the Gilloff Society of Glaisin, Mecklenburg at an open house in Monona 1998.

*Held the “first” northeast Iowa Region 3 Genealogical meeting, August
2000. Hosted a book signing for translator Richard Trost of the infamous Jurnjakob Swehn, der Amerikafahrer book. Now available in
english for the first time, Letters of a German American Farmer.

*Formed a Clayton County Cemetery Restoration Committee. Volunteers help to restore cemeteries.
