DUES & NEWSLETTER
|
In 1997,
the Newsletter Editor invited the members of the Dubuque County-Key
City Genealogical Society (DC-KCGS) to submit lists of surnames
they were researching and the places of origin and/or settlement
for those surnames. The submitted information and the surname
of each researcher were published in the December 1997 and
January 1998 issues of the Newsletter (Volume XX, Numbers
4 and 5). A separate membership list with contact information
was published in March 1998 (Volume XXI, Number 1). In 1999,
the Newsletter Editor decided to continue accepting lists
of surnames and place names from the Society's members.
•
Separate your surnames into a Dubuque County Area List
and an Other Areas List. Your Dubuque County Area
List will include families or individuals who lived at any
time in Dubuque County and/or neighboring counties. This list
will be published in the Newsletter. Your Other Areas List
will include surnames of families and individuals that never
lived at any time in Dubuque County and/or neighboring
counties.
•
Type or print your information.
•
Do not include given names or vital statistics for individuals.
•
Send in as many surnames as you like. List all variant spellings
for each surname.
•
List the places of origin/ settlement for each surname as
completely as possible. The purpose of this is to show the
path of migration for the family or individual.
•
Spell out each place name as specifically as possible. Do
not abbreviate. The editor will substitute the standard codes
for place names as appropriate and will clarify any questions
on the spellings of geographic place names when necessary.
•
On your Dubuque County Area List, include the date
or approximate period of arrival in Dubuque County and/or
surrounding counties only. If the time of arrival in the Dubuque
County area cannot be pinned down to a specific date, then
use, for example, 1844 or 1840-45 or 1840s.
•
Provide your full name and address on both surname lists.
You may include telephone numbers, FAX numbers, and Internet
addresses. Your contact information will be published in the
Society's Newsletter.
•
Mail your surname and place name lists to the Editor. Additions
or corrections are welcome at any time after you have submitted
your lists.
•
Keep a copy of your lists and this letter of instructions.
The Editor will contact you for a clarification if there are
questions about your lists.
