Charles L. Adams was given the advantages of the public schools and received a serviceable education. When he attained his majority he left
home and went to Springfield, South Dakota, where he purchased a farm, upon which he resided for three years. At the end of that time he sold his land there and returned to Delaware county, establishing a truck garden on six acres of land within the city of Manchester, which he purchased. He has since added a well equipped greenhouse and derives a good income from the sale of vegetables and flowers. In the spring of the year he also finds sale for a large number of slips and small plants from which tomatoes and other garden produce is raised. He not only understands well the problems of soil, moisture, heat and light which effect the growth of plant life, but he is an astute business man as well, and the success of his undertaking is but the natural result of his accurate knowledge and good management.

Mr. Adams was united in marriage in 1893 to Miss Mabel M. Woolf, a native of Clayton county, this state, and a daughter of Charles and Margaret (Mann) Woolf, both of whom now reside in Delaware county. To Mr. and Mrs. Adams have been born three children: Hazel B., whose birth occurred June 20, 1894, is now attending Cornell College at Mount Vernon, Iowa; Margaret M., born September 12, 1896, is likewise a student in Cornell College and also a cornetist of ability; and Harold L. was born October 1, 1902.

Mr. and Mrs. Adams are members of the Methodist Episcopal church and are active forces in the furtherance of the work of that organization. Mr. Adams is a republican in his political belief and for six years served as city councilman. Fraternally he is a member of the Knights of Pythias, and his wife belongs to the Ladies of the Maccabees. The couple have many friends who often meet at their hospitable home and those who have known them longest hold them in the highest esteem.
