LLEWELLYN L. COON
Llewellyn
L. Coon, a worthy native son and representative agriculturist of Delaware
county, owns and operates a well improved farm of one hundred and twenty acres
on section 23, Delaware township. In this section he has resided continuously
from his birth to the present time, his natal day being July
23, 1866.
His parents, Elisha S. and Sarah J. (Hunt) Coon, both
of whom were natives of Indiana, came to Iowa in the early '50s. They took up
their abode on a farm in Delaware township, Delaware county,
and here spent the remainder of their lives, being widely recognized as
substantial and esteemed residents of the community. To them were born two
children, namely: Edwin E., who is deceased; and Llewellyn L., of this review.
The latter
attended the common schools in the acquirement of an education and remained
under the parental roof until twenty-six years of age, when he was married and
established a home of his own. General agricultural pursuits have claimed his
attention throughout his entire business career. He has improved his property
by the erection of substantial and modern buildings and has also planted trees,
which greatly enhance the attractiveness of the place.
In 1892 Mr.
Coon was united in marriage to Miss Sadie Coats, a native of Delaware county and
a daughter of Ezra P. and Eliza (Hetherington) Coats, who came to Iowa in the early '50s. The father still
resides here, but the mother has passed away. To our subject
and his wife have been born four children, as follows: Edwin M., at home; Alien
L., who is deceased; Mildred E.; and Leslie L. Mr. Coon gives his political
allegiance to the democracy and has ably served in the capacity of school
director. Both he and his wife have spent their entire lives in this
county and enjoy an extensive and favorable acquaintance within its borders.
