A.E. File, a native son and representative
agriculturist of Delaware county, owns and operates a will
improved farm of two hundred and eighty acres on section 28, Milo township.
His birth occurred in South Fork township on the
10th of September, 1866, his parents being Frederick and Susie Theresa File, both
of whom were natives of Germany.
They crossed the Atlantic to the United States in 1856, locating on a farm in Delaware county, and here
the father passed away in 1876. They had
nine children, four of whom survive, as follows: Amelia, who is the wife of
William Loveland of Linn county, Iowa; E. R. File, a resident of Milo township;
A. E., of this review; and W. E., living in Hazel Green township.
A. E. File received the advantages of a college education in his
youth and remained under the parental roof until he had attained his majority,
when he took up the profession of teaching and also worked in a creamery.
Subsequently he rented the old home place and operated the farm successfully
for four years, on the expiration of which period he purchased land in Union
township, residing thereon for seven years. After disposing of the property he
bought and now owns two hundred and eighty acres on section 28, Milo township, where
he has carried on agricultural pursuits continuously to the present time. He
also conducts a dairy and has met with excellent success in both branches of: his business.
On the 13th of September, 1905, Mr. File was united in
marriage to Miss Jennie Mangold, a native of Delaware county and a
daughter of Jacob and Frances (Marshall) Mangold, the
former born in Switzerland and the latter in Germany. They emigrated
to the United States in the early '50s and took up government
land in this county. The father still resides on the old homestead here, but the mother has passed away. They became
the parents of ten children. Mr. and Mrs. File have three
children, as follows: Mildred A., who was born June 26. 1906;
Clarence M., whose birth occurred on the 1st of May, 1908; and Howard A., whose natal day was March 31, 1914.
Mr. File gives his political allegiance to the republican
party and has ably served in the positions of trustee, assessor and
township clerk, making a most
commendable record as a public official. With his family he attends
the services of the Congregational church. Both he and his wife have spent
their entire lives in Delaware county and have an
extensive circle of friends here, the hospitality
of the best homes being freely accorded them.
