JAMES L. GILBERT

James L. Gilbert is the popular cashier of the Dundee Savings Bank, which he assisted in organizing and of which institution he is also one of the directors. His birth occurred in
Illinois on the 7th of August, 1864, his parents being Nelson and Nancy A. Gilbert, of whom more extended mention is made above. He supplemented his public-school training by a business course and subsequently followed the profession of teaching for several years, also being engaged in farming for a time. In 1904 he assisted in the organization of the Dundee Savings Bank, of which he now acts as cashier, E. C. Hesner being president and F. G. Larrabee vice president of the institution. He has manifested special fitness for the duties devolving upon him in his present capacity and is widely recognized as an able, courteous and obliging official of the bank. He owns ninety acres of valuable land on section 27, Richland township, but still lives at home with his father.

In politics Mr. Gilbert is a stanch republican and his fellow townsmen, recognizing his worth and ability, have called him to positions of public trust. He has held all of the township offices and has ever proved a most capable and praiseworthy public official. He is a worthy exemplar of the Masonic fraternity, belonging to the following organizations: Solomon Lodge, No. 596, A. F. & A. M., in which he has filled all of the chairs; Olive Branch Chapter, No. 148, R. A. M.; Nazareth Commandery, No. 33, K. T. In all the relations of life his actions have conformed to the highest standards, and he justly deserves the full measure of confidence and respect now entertained for him by all who know him.
