Fred Rossow
Fred Rossow is the owner of an excellent farm embracing one hundred
and twenty acres on section 14, Coffins Grove township,
and in the conduct of his agricultural interests has won a gratifying measure
of prosperity. His birth occurred in
Fred Rossow, who came to this county with his
parents when ten years of age, attended the common schools in the acquirement
of an education and remained at home until he had attained his majority. Subsequently he cultivated a rented
farm for four years and on the expiration of that period purchased a tract of one
hundred and twenty acres of land on section 14, Coffins Grove township, the operation of which has claimed his attention
continuously to the present time. He has erected substantial and commodious
buildings on the place and has improved the same until it is now a model and
modern farming property. His undertakings as an agriculturist have been
attended with a well merited measure of success, and he may truly be called a
self-made man, owing his present prosperity entirely to his own industry and enterprise.
On the 7th
of June, 1896, Mr. Rossow was united in marriage to Miss
Olive Stone, a native of Clayton county, Iowa, and a daughter of Otis and Anna
(Allaway) Stone, both of whom are natives of
Pennsylvania and came to Iowa with their respective parents. They survive and
make their home in this county. To them were born five children, as follows:
Ida, who is the wife of Alfred Brink and resides in South Dakota; Eva, who gave
her hand in marriage to Joseph Baluff of Clayton
county, Iowa; Mrs. Olive Rossow; Ethel, the wife of
Bert Bowers of Delaware county, Iowa; and Alice, who is deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Rossow have four children, namely: Elsie May, born
Mr. Rossow give his political allegiance to the republican party and has held the office of school director.
He belongs to the Grange and is also a devoted and consistent member of the Lutheran
church, with which his wife is likewise identified. The period of his residence
