GODFREY
WENGER.
Godfrey Wenger is busily engaged in the pursuits
of farming and stock-raising, owning and operating a well improved property of
two hundred acres on section 5, Adams township. His birth occurred in Switzerland on the 10th of October, 1869, his father being John
Wenger, also a native of that country, who
emigrated to the United
States in 1877. The latter
located with his
family in Jones county, Iowa, and there carried on
farming throughout the remainder of his life, passing away in 1906. The mother
of our subject was called to her final rest
in 1894. To Mr. and Mrs. John Wenger were born eleven children, of whom the
following still survive: John, who is a resident of Monticello, Iowa; Godfrey, of this review; Christopher, who makes his
home in Manchester; Karl, who
follows farming near Ryan; William, living near Langworthy; and Edward, who resides near Monticello.
Godfrey Wenger, who was a lad of eight
years when he accompanied his parents on
their emigration to the new world, has devoted his attention to general agricultural
pursuits throughout his entire business career. About eighteen years ago he purchased his present home farm of
two hundred acres on section 5, Adams township, lying five
and a half miles from Ryan. Previously he had
resided in Hazel Green township, Delaware
county. He follows general farming and stock-raising and in both branches of his
business has met with success, conducting
his interests in a practical, progressive and resultant manner.
In 1896 Mr. Wenger was united in marriage
to Miss Emma Messerli, a daughter of James Messerli, of Switzerland. To them
have been born three children: Harry, Louis and Gladys. Mr. Wenger is one of
the representative agriculturists of
Delaware county and progressive, public-spirited citizens who is well
worthy of the high regard in which he is uniformly held.
