By Great Grandma Elizabeth Williamson Beebe. 1864 - 1948 When I was a child Great Grandma Beebe said, "I was borned 1864 in Demoin Ioway." She pronounced the name as De Moin with a strong D and strong M, and she pronounced the state as IO Wayyyy, strong on the I O with drawn out wayyy on the end. We assumed she meant Des Moines County, but from Mom's Book years later we learned that Elizabeth was born near Fort DesMoines, Iowa. Reformed LDS, her parents later removed to Galland's Grove Township of Shelby County where she grew up. Grandma learned these stories from Indian kids and their mothers who lived by the river. (She didn't say what river)
