Allison - Attorney; Colonel during Civil War who helped raise troops; member of House and Senate.August 31, 2001 Eugene Anderson - Civil engineer and surveyor. Sanford A. Atherton - General manager of Dubuque Omnibus Company. George F. Atkins - Wholesale and retail dealer in tobacco and smoking supplies. Honorable Isaac W. Baldwin - State Senator; editor and proprietor of Cascade Pioneer newspaper; Justice of the Peace in White Water Twp.; first mayor of Cascade. Charles Starr Barre - Editor of the News-Letter of DyersvilleConfederate. Frederick Christian Bauman - He founded Zwingle (population of 94 in 1990) and the German Reformed Church in Jackson county, along with his father-in-law, Daniel Cort. Honorable Richard Bonson - Miner and mercantilist; State Inspector of Banks; State Legislator; lived at Burnage Villa near Dubuque. General Caleb Hoskins Booth - First Mayor of Dubuque in 1841; Assistant Secretary and Treasurer of the Dubuque and Sioux City Raiload Company; inventor of Booth's Improved Dredge Pump; operated lead mines. Nicholas Bray, M. D. - Oculist, aurist, and physician. William Bray, M. D. - General medical practice at 864 Locust. John D. Bush - Tanner; pork packing business; twice elected Mayor of Dubuque. August 31, 2001 Nancy R. Hill, M. D. - Volunteer at Armory Square Hospital, Washington, D.C. during Civil War; opened medical office in Dubuque specializing in diseases of women and children; DAR descendant. August 31, 2001 M. M. Hoffman - Undertaker and embalmer; county Coroner; President of Iowa State Undertakers' Association. Asa Horr, M. D. - Chief of Medical Staff of Mercy Hospital; also a botanist, geologist and astronomer. James Howie - President of Dubuque Pressed Brick Company; contractor and builder; Mason. Edward R. Jackson, M. D. - 1848 - 1883; Physician and surgeon. Henry J. Jecklin - Dairy farmer in Dubuque Township. Reverend Clement Johannes - Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church; supervised erection of St. Mary's Orphan Asylum. Evan E. Honorable James McCann - State Legislator; Dubuque County Sheriff; President and General Manager of Excelsior Brass Works. Benjamin McCluer, M. D. - Surgeon of 9th Iowa Infantry; noted physician. Susan Ann McCraney - First white child born in Dubuque County. A. S. McDermott - Dealer in agricultural equipment; patented the McDermott Cultivator in 1871. James and Martha (Anderson) McGee - (Iowa township - 1836) Scientist who studied the regions glacial past; founded the National Geographic Society; conducted cancer research.
