5th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, Company E
Research is currently being conducted on the 5th Iowa Cavalry. If you possess any artifacts or primary documents, such as correspondence, please contact: cav@scriptoriumnovum.com. This website, the 5th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, Company E, contains brief biographies of Civil War veterans from the Dubuque area, the horrors of war, descriptions of battles fought, contemporary images from the Civil War era, and links to other Civil War sites. A complete roster of soldiers is listed, transcribed from the official Roster of Soldiers in the War of the Rebellion. Unknown Soldiers of the 5th Iowa Cavalry, Company E http://www.scriptorum.org/c/p/unknown.html This companion site contains photographs of soldiers, probably from Dubuque, who have not been identified. They were found in an album belonging to veteran trooper, Louis Sohl. Names of men who have been identified in the album include:
Henry Herkes
I hope you will look at this site in particular to see if you can identify any of the men, please contact Sandra Seabold, artworks@interl.net, a descendent of Louis Sohl. The Iowa GenWeb also has a site devoted to Iowans in the Civil War at http://IAGenWeb.org/civilwar/. The Green Valley Area Education Agency 14 of Creston, Iowa, has compiled a CD-ROM of primary documents on the Civil War. This CD-ROM for Mac and Windows contains hard-to-access book volumes and more than 54,000 pages of Iowa Civil War History. All of the information can be accessed and printed by its entirety, by page or by volume. The icon for the 5th Cavalry at the top of the page was obtained from the 5th Iowa Cavalry Unit http://www.geocities.com/stroudsite/5iowacav.html website. |
