WE HAVE A NEW HOME!!!
We have recently purchased a newer building to better display the history of Greene County. The packing and moving was done during this past spring and summer and several new displays are in place thanks to the work of many hard-working, diligent volunteers. A fund-raising campaign is currently under way. If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution, make checks payable to Greene County, Iowa, Historical Society Building Fund and mail to Marilynn Hoskinson, 1300 Westwood Drive, Jefferson IA 50129.

Historical Society
Organized in 1966, the society has made steady
progress in collecting, preserving, restoring, cataloging
and displaying hundreds of items pertinent to Greene
County's history, starting from the first white settler
in 1849. Early in the society's existence, a building was
purchased on the north side of the courthouse square in
Jefferson. Later, a large metal building was constructed
on the Greene County Fairgrounds to house a log cabin,
farm machinery and farm related implements. A well
preserved one room school house near this site is also
maintained by the society.
Meetings are held on the first Friday of the month. Dues
are $10.00 for individual or $15.00 for family. Donations and/or Memorial contributions of
any size are most welcome. Admission to the museum is
free.
