Rites Monday - Final Rites Held at Vermillion Gospel Tabernacle
Monday Afternoon
W. F. ADAMSON, well-known Vermillion resident, passed away at his home on Willow street Friday morning following a lingering illness with heart trouble and complications. Funeral services were held at the Vermillion Gospel Tabernacle at 2:30 Monday afternoon. The Elmore funeral service was in charge of arrangements. Pastor C. T. Beem gave the sermon from Romans 1:15 "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth." Pastor Beem was assisted by Evangelist M. C. Nelson, of Meckling, and Pastor H. D. Robeson, of Burbank. Evangelist Floyd B. Adamson, of Scranton, N. D., sang "Sunrise Tomorrow," and Pastor Earl B. Adamson, of Manaugo, Minn., and his wife sang "There Will be No Disappointments in Heaven." The deceased was born in Henry county, Iowa, in December 1880. April 8, 1902, he was united in marriage to Nellie Kellogg at Fort Dodge, Iowa. Eight children were born to this union, all of whom are living. They are: Lawrn, Vermillion; Mrs. Mable Goodwin, of Naperville, Ill.; Marion, of Warrenville, Ill.; George, Beaver Creek, Minn.; Mrs. Irene Gilman, Fairmont, Minn.; Ward, Seattle, Wash.; David, Brainard, Minn., and Harold, Vermillion. There are also 16 grandchildren and one brother, John, Vermillion, and on sister, Mrs. Will Colwill, Sioux Falls. One brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

Morning After a Lingering Illness; Burial in Bluff View - W. F. Adamson,
59, a resident of Vermillion for the last four years, died at 6:30 Friday
morning at his home on Willow street. He had been bedfast with a severe
heart ailment for months before his death. During the past few years Mr.
Adamson had been in the used furniture business, in a room uder the Waldorf
hotel, and later at the old Lee residence on Prospect street. Funeral services
were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Gospel tavernacle on National
street, Rev. Beem officiating. Burial was in Bluff View cemetery, under
the direction of the Elmore service. Mr. Adamson was born in Henry county,
Iowa, the son of Ben and Lucina Adamson. Prior to coming to Vermillion
four years ago he had lived at Yankton. He is survived by his widow, eight
children, and other relatives. The children are Lauren Adamson, Vermillion;
Mabel Goodin, Naperville, Illinois; Marion Adamson, Warrenville, Illinois;
George Adamson, Beaver Creek, Minnesota; Irene Gilman, Fairmont, Minnesota;
Ward Adamson, Seattle, Washington; David Adamson, Brainard, Minnesota,
and Harold Adamson, Vermillion. He is also survived by one brother, J.
C. Adamson, Vermillion, and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Cowill, Sioux Falls.

CHANDLER
Died-On the 24th in Baltimore township, Henry county, Elihu Chandler,
aged 80 years. Mr. Chandler was born in the State of Maine Jan. 27, 1795.
In 1880 he came west to the State of Ohio and from thence the next year
to Henderson county Illinois. This was the period of the BlackHawk war,
and Mr. Chandler was engaged in building and guarding the rude fort in
that county. In 1883 Mr. Chandler crossed the Mississippi river at a point
where there was a little white settlement of two or three cabins, and known
in that early day as "Pinhook," (this was the very beginning of your city
Burlington). And here Mr. Chandler worked six weeks at the honest business
of splitting rails and chopping wood for Dr. Ross, the first white physician
who practiced medicine in Burlington. In the fall Mr. Chandler went back
to Illinois, but in February recrossed the river, and with Enoch Cyrus,
William Dickens, and Noble Housely, came west some fifteen miles and started
the first settlement made in Danville, and perhaps Augustana Township.
CHANDLER
Died at her home in Baltimore township, Henry county, Iowa. Mrs.
Jemima Chandler, in her 84th year of her age. Deceased was born in Greene
County, Kentucky August 15, 1804, was married to James Dobson July 11,
1822. Mr. Dobson died September 27, 1831 leaving her a widow with four
children. In October 1834 she moved with her family to Iowa. In June 1835
she was married to Elihu Chandler the result of the union was four children.
All her children except two have proceded her to that better land. Deceased
was converted and joined the Baptist church in 1824. She has since lived
a devoted and earnest Christian life as was evinced in her last moments,
dying as she had lived with full radiance on Him who doeth all things well

CARLINE DAVIDSON Caroline May Saint Davidson, daughter of Rev. George and Kathern Oldt Saint, was born at Oakland Mills, Feb 19, 1873 and died Mar 21, 1953 in the Memorial hospital I Mt. Pleasant at the age of 80 years and 31 days. With the exception of a few years in Mt. Pleasant, she had lived in Oakland Mills and Salem all her life. On January 1, 1907, "Carrie" (as she was known by everyone), married Charles Wilson Davidson, who preceded her in death on May 6, 1945 at the age of 76. There were no children. A sister, Minnie, and a half brother, Oscar Keller, also preceded her in death. Carrie a sprightly, attractive and cheerful little woman was an ardent church worker all of her life. Her religion was vital to her existence. She joined the Methodist Church on Dec. 8, 1889, was a member of WSCS and of the Loyalty Class. Also, she joined the Eastern Star in Feb. 1918. To these organizations, she devoted nearly all of her energies, especially during the later years. Earlier, she was an expert milliner and dress maker, having operated a shop in Salem for a long time, in conjunction with her husband's jewelry store. Carrie's closet surviving relatives are a niece, Mrs. P. E. Young and a nephew, George A. Bailey, both of Arcadia, Calif. Several relatives by marriage still live. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church, Salem at 2 P.M., March 23, 1853 with Rev. J. E. chambers officiating. Bearers were Dale Tyner, Chauncey Wilmeth, Ray Davidson, Arlo Foss, Darrell Doss and Vic Morrow. Burial was in Salem Cemetery. "Tho suffering she breathed not a murmer, For the Comforter stood by her side And whispered, "Fear Not, I am with thee With Me shalt thou ever abide.' On the river a pale boatman hastened, She heard the soft drip of his oar; Then from earth and sorrow he bore her Across that beautiful shore." Jim Fett, 41 of Bonaparte, died 5/26/98 in rural Stockport, Ia. Born:

FRARY
Today Salem mourns the death of one of the pioneers - that of Mrs. Sarah FRARY, who has endeared herself to old and young by her kindly ways. Sarah OVITT [sic] who was born in Trumble county, Ohio, April 13, 1822, and died Jan. 21, 1914 at the home of her daughter. In 1845 she was united in marriage with Thomas E. FRARY. Four sons and one daughter were born into this home. In 1854 they came to Iowa and in 1865 to Salem where she has resided since. Mrs. Frary was a staunch Presbyterian, having united with that church in 1853. The husband died in 1886 and since that time she has made her home with her children. Two sons, Mark L. of Salem; Jesse J. of Memphis, Mo. and one daughter, Mrs. Rue GARRETSON with grand children and great-grand children are left to mourn. Two sons, Edgar T. and Cornelius G., died several years ago. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Rue GARRETSON Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. O.G. MISAMORE
FREEMAN
Mrs. Emma FREEMAN Emma FREEMAN, daughter of Theodore and Phebe Ann (SMITH) RORK, was born June 5, 1848, about three miles southwest of Mt. Pleasant,Ia., and went to her heavenly home November 27, 1940 at the age of 92 years, five months and 22 days. She was the last of eleven children, her parents, nine sisters and one brother having preceded her in death. In 1866, she and James FAWCETT were united in marriage. His death occurred the following year. In 1869 she ws married to Peter PERRINE. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Ella WHALEY, who passed away on November 4, 1924. Several years after Mr. Perrine's death, which occurred in 1885, she was married to Warren FREEMAN, who also preceded her in death on September 19, 1925. Surviving are six grandchildren: Mrs. Emma SEARS of West Burlington; Mrs. Laura INGELBRIGHT and Mrs. Grace FRICKE and Maynard WHALEY, all of north of Mt. Pleasant; Mary and Harry Whaley of Mt. Pleasant; also six great- grandchildren; four step children and eight step (grand)children; many nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She was tenderly cared for the last years of her life by her granddaughters. Aunt Emma, as she was called, joined the little country (illegible) services so long as her health permitted. Largely attended funeral services were held at the Crane funeral home on Friday afternoon conducted by the Rev. T.C. Jensen, a former pastor who spoke comforting words from the first chapter of Peter. Favorite songs ``Where the Gates Swing Outward Never'' and ``Old Rugged Cross'' were sung by the Rev. and Mrs. T.C. Jensen. Body bearers were Maynard and Harry WHALEY, Pierce SEARS, Harold INGLEBRIGHT, John and Harry FREEMAN. The floral tributes were many and spoke very impressively of the beautiful life of the deceased. -- Mt. Pleasant (Ia.) Free Press, December 12. Mrs. Ira Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Dennis Kittle, Messrs Nellie and Bert Summers of Scotland County (Mo.) with their children and grandchildren mourn a loving aunt who always had a kind smile and loving word for each one when yearly she met with them at their annual RORK family reunion either held in this county or in Henry County, Iowa, where she resided.

RILEY
Lydia Ann Riley was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Aug 25th, 1821 and
died Nov. 18th 1903. Her father, Oliver Riley was a minister to the M.E.
Church and was chaplain in a Virginia Regiment during the war of 1812.
After the war he went west to Cincinnati, where he was elected principal
to a high school, where he died in 1821, two months before the birth of
the subject of this notice. Later she came with her mother to Vesoo, Ind.,
where she was married Aug 9, 1938 to Martin Lee. In 1840 they moved to
the then Territory of Iowa and located in Tippecanoe township, Henry County,
where they lived together until the death of her husband in April 1900.
She was the mother of six children, of this number only two remain, Rev.
Jonathan Lee and Miss Mary Lee, both residing near the old home. Mrs lee
was a member of the Baptist church from early life until her death. She
was a woman of a meek, quiet, Christian disposition. She had been in feeble
health for more than fifty years but her last sickness was of short duration.
Her death was as one passing into a quiet and peaceful sleep. The funeral
services were conducted by Rev. C.H. Workman of the Glasgow Baptist church.
The remains were laid away in the Lamberth Cemetery in hope of resurrection
to a better life

Union, Ia. and Randy Wilkerson of Morning Sun, Ia.; Three stepdaughters, Judy Johnson, Jackie Whitaker both of Oakville, Ia., Barbara Wendt of Wilton, Ia.; one stepson, Bill Cline of DeWitt, Ia.; two brothers, Duane Wilkerson of Clifton Hills, Mo. and Ronald Wilkerson of Wapello, Ia.; one sister, Wilma Goudie of Morning Sun, Ia.; and a close cousin, Glen Wilkerson of West Burlington, Ia. Preceded in death by first wife, parents, one brother and one sister. Burial will be in the Sheridan Cemetery west of Mt. Union, Ia.
