W. P. Young The comrades all know that the post is required to pay a Department Per capita fee on each member, and that it requires money to relieve the needy veterans, pay rent occasionally eat. Hence the necessity of regularity in paying dues. The good soldiers never shirks his duty. It is the wish of all, that we shall stick together, an unbroken band, while we pass down the hill of life. BEN L. COZIER. Quartermaster. Undated, unnamed
newspaper article, probably “Mt. Pleasant News“, found in the
scrapbooks of Mary [Blaut] Abraham, wife of Captain Lot Abraham; the
scrapbooks are currently owned by their great-granddaughter, Martha
[Wright] Allen, Mt. Pleasant, IA. [June 2006] Note: GAR stands for Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Civil War veterans.
