NOTE NEW BOOK RELEASE!!!

"Unincorporated Towns of Henry County, Iowa" was released in August by the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission.
The towns included are Lowell, Oakland Mills, Trenton and Swedesburg. There are maps and pictures also in the book. It is 352 pages and sells for $26 plus $5.00 shipping. There are many places in Henry County that are selling copies. They suggested that those outside Henry County order it from the Swedesburg Museum, Swedesburg, Iowa 52652. Checks can be made payable to the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission.

Named after the original town, Dover, there are two floors of exhibits relating to New London-Lowell area.  Genealogical & historical records are also available.

Harlan-Lincoln House, Mt. Pleasant

James Harlan was an Iowa Wesleyan College president, U. S. Senator and friend of President Lincoln.  His daughter, Mary, was married to Lincoln’s son, Robert Todd Lincoln.

Lewelling Quaker Museum, Salem

It was once known as the main ticket office for the Underground Railroad.  Many hiding places are revealed.  Artifacts from the period fill the museum.

Swedish American Museum, Swedesburg

Discover the story of Swedish immigration through exhibits in 4 buildings.  Also contains a coffee shop, gift shop & library containing genealogical & historical materials.

Van Allen House Heritage Center, Mt. Pleasant

This is the boyhood home of Dr. James Van Allen, space program pioneer.  All four Van Allen children were successful in their chosen careers.  A renovation is planned.
