Dean

Dean, William (p. 446)

William Dean was born 27 November 1875 in Mercer Co., Illinois, the son of S.A. and Mary (Powell)( Dean, both natives of Indiana.  They had moved to Mercer Co. in 1865 where the mother passed away in 1882. There were eight chidren in this family, four of whom are : Jennie m. George Baumgardner of Coffey Co. Ks.; Sadie; Loie m. Fank Mackey of Peoria, Illinois and William of this review.

William Dean m. 1) in 1897 to Jennie Johnson, a native of Rock Island, Il by whom he had one child, Charles C. Jennie died in April of 1898. On 20 may 1900, Mr. Dan m. 2)Daisy Fender, daughter of J.O. and Nancy (Baker) Fender. They had four children: Eliza F., Jennie M.; Ralph E.; and Opal L. 

Deihl

Deihl, George R.(548)

George R. Deihl was b. 27 October 1857 in Louisa Co., the son of John and Margaret (Jamison) Deihl, the former a native of Franklin Co., Pennsylvania and the latter of Ohio. John Deihl was b. 21 November 1808 and came to Louisa Co., in 1836. He died 10 September 1878.

George Deihl was m. 1 January 1880 to Eva E. Dotson, a native of Louisa Co., the daughter of Basil and Mary (Davison) Dotson, who were b. in Pennsylvania and England respectively. Her parents came to Louisa Co. in 1844 and had fourteen children.  George and Eva had five children: Blanch A. m. Stephen Pandel; John D.; J. Ross; Frank W. and Margaret M. 

John Dotson Deihl, son of the above, was b. 10 Decebmer 1882. He was cashier of the Wapello Savings Bank. On the 12 October 1905, he married Talma Bly Parsons, daughter of Douglas D. and Jessie (Hook) Parsons. She had a sister Pearl m. Rallph Hunt and a brother Dean Dotson. Mr. and Mrs. Deihl had two sons: Douglas George, b. 18 July 1906 and Albert Parsons b. 7 July 1908. 

Deihl, Merit J. (p. 198)

Merit J. Diehl was b. 16 March 1856, in Louisa Co., son of John and Margaret (Jamison) Deihl. (See George Deihl for more information on the parents.)

Merit Deihl married 17 April 1879 to Clara Brogan b. 25 November 1859, the daughter of James and Eliza Jane (Van Horn) Brogan. She had five siblings: Elius L., d. as infant; Elmeda m. George Coffine of Thomas Co., KS; George W. of Hamilton Co., Ia; Elmer E. of Polk Co., Nebraska and Charles, d. as infant. Merit and Clara had three children: Emma Adell b. 25 March , 1880; Samuel J. b. 2 February 1883; and Alma Ola b. 19 October 1885. 

Derby

Derby, Oliver J.(527)

Oliver J. Derby was b. 26 March 1864 in Illinois, the son of Jerome and Lucinda (Wyman) Derby.  The parents were married in Vermont and later removed to Illinois. They came to Iowa in 1878.  The mother d. January 1911 and the father d. July 1897. Oliver's siblings were Mary L. m. John Allen of Macomb, Ill; Belle, d. in infancy; and Alma d. age 40.

Mr. Derby married 4 March 1885 to Anna H. Benz, a native of Louisa Co., b. 17 September 1864, the daughter of Mathias and Lucy (Schneider) Benz, the father a native of Germany and the mother of Pennsylvania where they were married.  Her siblings were: Lydia, m. W.F. Nelson; Mary, m. H.J. Jeffries of Muscatine; Jacob, Albert d. age 6, and Zula m. J.H. Hintermeister of Muscatine.

Mr. and Mrs Derby had the following children: Paul A. b. 2 November 1887; Harvey W. b. 29 March 1890; Ethel May b. 25 May 1898; Oliver E. b. 2 April 1900 and Frank I. b. 17 October 1905.
