Drake, William Stewart (p.541)

William Stewart Drake was born 10 March 1870, the son of Jonathan C. and Mary (Hoffman) Drake, the former b. in Indiana 10 May 1822 and the latter in Pennsylvania 31 October1843.  The father was one of the early settlers of Louisa Co., arriving in 1837.There were four children in the family: Rhoda C. m. A.T. Ball; William Stewart; and Eva F. m. W.S. Gunnels.

On 5 November 1891, Mr. Drake married 1)Emma A. Shipman, a daughter of P.O. and Orlena Shipman by whom he had one child Wilbur.  Mrs. Drake died 5 May 1893 and Mr. Drake m. 2)26 August 1897 Carrie Hoffman, daughter of Johnson and Mary (Mitchell) Hoffman, who were the parents of seven children, namely: Myrtle O. ,d. in infancy; Carrie; Pearl A.; Charles C.; Edward K.; Floyd J. and Bert. 


Dryden, Robert C. (p. 312)

Robert C. Dryden was born in Ohio and came to Louisa Co. in 1847. On the 4 December 1852 he arrived Mary Mickey, born in Richland Co., Ohio, daughter of John R. and Sarah (Wasson) Mickey.  Her parents, natives of Ohio and Pennsylvania respectively came to Iowa in1835. In the Mickey family were nine children, six who survived until 1912: Mary; John M.; R. B.; Thomas K.; Joseph; and James D.

Mr. and Mrs. Dryden had nine children, but five were deceased before 1912. Children named in the history: Sarah A. m. Edwin F. Monshowerof Morning Sun Twp.; Clarissa Catherine m. Francis Kern of Harrison Co; Laura O. m. John Henderson of Waverly, Iowa; and George H. of Louisa Co.
