Gabriel
Gabriel, E. K. (p. 213)
E.K. Gabriel was born 30 October 1853, in Muscatine Co., the son of Conrad and Susan (Kegg) Gabriel. The father was born in Hessen Darmstadt, Germany and the mother in Pennsylvania. After his wife died, the father moved from Muscatine Co. to Louisa Co.
On 5 March 1876 E.K. Gabriel married C.A. Bretz, who was born in Louisa Co., a daughter of Peter and Cathrine (Cutkomp) Bretz, both of whom were born in Germany. Mr. Bretz had settled in Louisa Co. about 1855. Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel had five children: L.R.; C.O.; Lydia G.; R.O. and C.E. (Sorry only initials of the men provided in the history book).
Garrett
Garrett, Alexander.M. (p. 192)
Alexander M. Garrett was born in Concord Twp., Louisa Co. on 31 March 1857, the son of Barton and Elizabeth (Finley) Garrett, natives of Floyd Co., Ky and Ohio Respectively. The former came to Iowa in 1852 and the latter in 1839. The mother died 5 May 1870 and the father died 22 November 1910. Alexander M. had brothers: Ulric; James M. and Barton, who d. in 1867 age two. The father remarried in 1873 to Susanna M. Dodder, a native of New Jersey, by whom he had a son Joseph H. b. in 1874. Ms. Dodder came to Iowa in 1836 and lived near Grandview.
Alexander married 8 October 1878 to Laura S. Dill, who was born at Todd Town, a daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth J. (Fowler) Dill. Her father was physician. She was the younger of two daughters, her sister Mary m. John Conlin a carpenter and contractor of Oneida, KS. Her mother died in1869. The father remarried to Mary Mickey by whom he had two more children: Bessie, m. A.M. Reynolds of Chicago; and Georgiana m. W.M> Coats of Hoxie, Arkansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Garrett had three children, namely: J. Bertram b. 5 January 1880; Elizabeth J. b. 26 January 1881 m. E.R. McCormick; and A. May b. 25 January 1883 m. F.S. Barnes.
Garrett. H. W. (p. 534)
H.W. Garrett was born 8 July 1862 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Abel and Elizabeth (Felker) Garrett. The father was a native of England and the mother of Kentucky, where they were married. There were seven children in their family: George of Friendship, Wisconsin; Robert of Laredo, Missouri; Edward; Herbert W., our subject; Clarence of Joplin, Missouri; Frank; and Julia.
On the 4 January 1884, he married Ella Hicklin, born 12 December 1859 in Brunswick, Missouri, the daughter of William and Catherine (Bullion) Hicklin, who were natives of Kentucky and Illinois, respectively. To this union was born five children: Robert b. 12 July 1889; Arthur b. 13 December 1889; Joe b. 30 April 1892; William and Walter, both died in infancy.
Gast
Gast, Farrie (p. 309)
Farrie Gast was born in Louisa County on 17 February 1870, the son of Harmon and Sarah (Stineman) Gast. The father came from Germany and the mother from Ohio, but they were married in Iowa. His mother died 15 April 1906. THere were four children in the family. The others were: Margaret m. H. E. Lang; Rush F.; and Ora E.
He was married 6 January 1898 to Maggie Kallenbarger, b. 18 February 1866, in Louisa Co., the daughter of G.D. and Sophia (Winkleman) Kallenbarger, the father a native of Germany and the mother of Ohio. Mrs. Kallenbarger d. 1888. Her siblings were: Elizabeth and Amanda, twins, Elizabeth d. age 27 and Amanda at age 18;; G. Adam d. when he was forty; Nettie m. John Idelbaugh of Grandvies; Annie m. Harry Buster; Daniel F. d. August 10, 1910 age 28 yrs. old.
Mr. and Mrs. Gast had six children: Ruth M. b. 18 Novmeber 1898; one died in infancy; May E. b. 1 February 1901; Paul H. b. 10 April 1903; Floyd H. b. 31 October 1905; and D.F. b. 18 June 1906.
Gates
Gates, S.E. (p. 10)
S.E. Gates was born 9 May 1850 in Mercer Co., Illinois, the son of Seth and Lydia (Andrews) Gates. The fathere was a native of New York and the mother of Massachusetts. They located in Mercer Co. in 1846 where the father died in 1876 and the mother moved to Missouri in 1878. S.E. Gates came to Louisa County in 1871. he married twice !) Mary E. Ogle of Keithsburg, Illinois in June 1871. they had five daughters: Zoe E. m. Allen Russell of Louisa Co.; Estella, m. William Williams of Missouri; Cordie m. James O. Waterhouse of Oakville; Bessie, m. Edward C. Waterhouse, also of Oakville; and Fernie. Mrs. Gates d. 16 January 1898 and on the 22 July 1903, Mr. Gates m. Mrs. Edith (Wycoff) Cowan, at native of Adair Co., Iowa. By this marriage he had two more daughters: Lillian C. and Everetta Uvista.
Gilbert
Gilbert, August (p. 59)
August Gilbert was born 22 October 1821 in Germany and came to America in the 1850's. He married Anna Achardt, 2 May 1866, a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Smith) Achardt. The parents were natives of Germany and spent their entire lives there. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert had four children: August, Jr., Chicago, Illinois; Charles, Ohio; Carrie m. William G. Roberts of Columbus Junction: and William.
Gipple
Gipple, E.B. (p. 387)
Edward B. Gipple was born 23 June 1859 in Louisa Co., the son of George W. and Mary Ellen (Brooks) Gipple. The parents were natives of Pennsylvania, came to Iowa in 1845. They lived at Letts, Iowa.
Edward Gipple married Lona Metzgar 27 December 1882, the oldest child of Nathan and Sally (Felencer) Metzger. The other Metzgar children were:Ella m. Frank Chamberlain; Jacob; Simon: David; Levi: and Edward. The children of Edward and Lona were: Charles; George; Glennie m. L. Huston; Harrison; Vernon; Hitlton; and Pearl.
Gipple, L.U. (p. 501)
Lincoln U. Gipple was born 3 March 1866, the son of George W. and Mary (Brooks Gipple, both born near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They came to Iowa in 1852 and bought land in Grandview twp., Louisa Co. The mother was 84 in October 1910 and the father was 84 on the 4 May 1911. Their children were: Emma m. Mark Sharp of Fall City, Nebraska; Anna m. L. Hudler of S.D.; Cynthia m. A.H. Dalahide of Audubon Co, Iowa; Charles, Letts; Edward B.; Harvey livedin Bentonville, Arkansas; Carrie m. John Holtz of Muscatine; and Link N.
Mr. Gipple married 114 June 1894 to Alice Kerr, b. 8 October 1871 in Muscatine Co, the daughter of David and Mary (Williams) Kerr. Her father was a native of Ohio and her mother of Indiana. She had two brothers, Frank and Walter. Mr. and Mrs. Gipple had three children: Vivian b. 2 February 1895; ORval b. 13 March 1898 and Wldon b. 17 August 1899.
Gipple, T.J. (p. 224)
Thomas Jeffferson Gipple was born 15 July 1859, the son of J.S. and Margaret (Hoover) Gipple, natives of Pennsylvania, who came to Louisa Co. in 1850. On the 24th April 1884, Mr. Gipple was married to Elizabeth Auracher, who was born in Northampton Co., Pennsylvania, the daughter of Christian and Mary (Buzzard) Auracher, the father a native of Germany and the mother of Pennsylvania. Mr. Auracher died 23 September 1879 and his wife on 21 July 1901.

Glenn
Glenn, G.W. (p. 233)
George W. Glenn was born 17 August 1867 in Lincolnshire, England, the son of George and Mary (Thurlby) Glenn. The father came to America in 1867 leaving his family behind until he could bring his wife and two children over in 1869. There were eight children: Rosie; George W.; Thomas H.; Lizzie m. Thomas F. Kauffman of McLean, Illinois; Annie m. S.A. Meyers of Buchanan Co., Iowa; Emma m. John Kauffman of Rolfe, Iowa; Minnie m. M.C. Boyce of Bloominton, Illinois; and Lilly m. W. H. Nobble of Rolfe.
On the 16 of March 1893, Mr. Glenn married Matilda E. Meyers, daughter of Simon and Julia (Coleman) Meyers. She was one of ten children, the others being: Fred; Mary m. John Smith of Andrew Co., Missouri; Theodore; Julia m. Gus H. Tugle of S.D.; Samuel A.;Edward;one died in infancy; Albert; and Edith m. Edward Miller.
Grafe
Grafe, Theodore (p. 477)
Theodore Grafe was born in April 1841 in Hanover, Germany and came to the United States in 1870. He died 27 December 1899. He married twice 1) Unknown 2) Elizabeth Avesing on the 15 October 1875, daughter of Harmon and Gertrude (Manka)Avesing, both natives of Germany. Her siblings were: Dena m. Frank Rath of Goshen, Washington; Henry, Muscatine; Herman, Germany; George, Kansas City, Missouri; August of Columbus Jct. and one died in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Grafe had seven children: Clara; Walter of San Francisco; Mamie m. William Schlung of S.D.; Theodore, San Francisco; Esther; and two infants.
Graham
Graham, G. W. (p. 32)
George Wilson Graham was born 13 October 1872, the son of B.I. and Ann (Blackburn) Graham. His paternal grandfather was Wilson Graham, a pioneer settler of Louisa County. He had the following siblings: Samuel R. b. 1 July 1875; Frank R. b. 20 May 1880; and Jennie M. b. 12 April 1885.
Graves
Graves, A.D. (p.263)
A.D. Graves born 31 December 1866, was the son of G.W. and Sarah E.(Fairbanks) Graves. he married Carrie Spitsnogle, who was born in Louisa co. on the 23 February 1870, the daughter of John and Sarah (Shaw) Spitsnogle,the father a native of Indiana and the mother of Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Graves had five children: Nellie M. b. 27 July 1895; Merle Lea b. 11 March 1898; Gladys L. b. 2 November 1900; and Carrie A. b. 14 April 1909.

The Graves family first settled in Louisa County in 1836. G. W. was born 13 November 1835 in Ashtabula Co., Ohio, the son of John and Amelia Graves, natives of Connecticut. He married Sarah E. Fairbanks, a native of Ohio in June 1856. She came to Iowa with her parents in 1842 and her mother died in 1846. Her father was a veteran of the Civil War. Mr. and Mrs. Graves had eight children: Charles H.; Cassie E, deceased.; Sherman A.; A.D. b. 31 December 1866; Cassie B. ; Nellie D.; Faith B. and Eddie.
Gray
Gray, J.E. (p. 430)
James E. Gray was born 21 March 1849 in Louisa Co., the son of William and Sarah (Stornach) Gray, natives of England and Maryland, respectively. They came to Louisa Co., in 1840. On the 22 of November 1877, Mr. Gray married Jennie Dawdy, who was born 21 November 1857, the daughter of Alfred; and Mary (Gunter) Dawdy, who were both born in Kentucky. Mr. and Mrs. Gray had three children: Chester E. b. 16 May 1881; Ethel, b. 6 June 1890 d. 1892; and Marian Edith b. 22 December 1893.

A. J. Greiner, D.D.S. was born in Muscatine Co., on the 6 April 1887,
the son of W.P. and Katherine E. (Bretz) Greiner, the father a native of
Pennsylvania and the mother of Virginia. There were four siblings. W.S.;

Hezekiah M. Griffith was born 8 October 1873 in Madison Co., New York, the son of Thomas H. and Esther (Jones) Griffith, both of whom were born in Wales. Their family consisted of twelve children: Mary m. W.B. Morse of N.Y.; Jane; Elizabeth and John, all deceased; David, Winfield, Ia; Gordon and Thomas, also deceased; Daniel; Maggie m. D.E. Own of Cotter; Edward; Hezekiah and Hettie.
