    LOOKUPS
Please note we are here to assist you and make suggestions where you might find your family.  But our time is valuable and limited. Our researchers work on multiple projects. Please use care in wording your request.  Don't  expect us to do your entire research for you free.

The abusive use of clickable e-mail addresses has forced us to change our policies on lookups.  We will no longer have clickable e-mail addresses. You will need to copy and paste the address listed to a new message to contact those listed.

Please read the the suggestions and rules for wording your request before contacting any of the lookup people below.

  1. Contact only one researcher at a time.  We all have access to pretty much the same information. It is unfair to ask all listed researchers to duplicate their efforts on your research. Yes, we do compare notes and if you ignore this rule, your request may go to the bottom of the pile.
  2. Limit the number of requests you make at one time. Remember you are only one person out of dozens wanting assistance.
  3. Do as much of your own research before requesting random data. Thoroughly check the resources on the Ialouisa and the Ialcgs websites before asking us for information. You can look up much of your own data such as cemetery data, 1856 census records, etc. A search engine allows you to search the entire website so you should have no difficulty finding your surname if it is on line.
  4. Always provide a full name (i.e. Benjamin Jennings), what you know about the family you are researching  and an approximate time span when they lived in the county.  Our researchers will not look up everything in the county for everyone named Jennings.
  5. Tell us what resources you have already checked on your own.
  6. Be very specific about what you want them to research:   wills, deed, death certificate, tax record, etc.
  7. Always reference the source where you found the researcher's name and e-mail (i.e. which website for which county.) Some of us maintain multiple sites and counties on line.
  8. Photocopies and costs of documents are expected to be reimbursed. A fee of $8-10/hour may be charged for extensive and in depth research that requires a  lot of  researcher time.
  9. Headstone Photography begins at a minimum of $5 for each cemetery. More than one photograph is negotiable with the individual photographers. (See below for Names)
We have some very helpful folks helping us here in Louisa County that provide a lot of free help to fellow researchers when they are familiar with the people they are researching.  However,  we do not have a bottomless pit supporting this venture. You will still be expected to reimburse any expenses incurred in doing your research.  It is not cheaper  than writing the courthouse for vital records.   Volunteers have to pay for that material the same as you do to get the information from the court records. And if they do extensive research, they should be given something for their time.  Please don't take advantage of our volunteers.
