Our initial listing of this cemetery was compiled from 1930's WPA records (noted in red) and a brief listing compiled in the 1980's by the staff of the Musser Library in Muscatine, Iowa. The WPA list did note that Peter and Elizabeth Haroff were the first burials at this location. Thanks to Bill Dickerson, great-grandson of David Haroff, for supplying additional information on the Haroff family, which was then added to the listing.
An interesting
note from the WPA records is that it shows David Haroff buried at "St John's"
cemetery in Lake Twp
noting
that St John's may be High Prairie Cemetery. It also provided two
burials, Eliza and John Riggs, which were not on the Musser Library listing.
On 10 Jul
2002, the cemetery was rewalked by Susie Martin-Rott, Mary Hamilton Singleton
and Toni Hesseltine.
The stone
of David Haroff, with a death date matching the listing on the WPA records
was located at Jesse cemetery at this time, so clearly he is not at High
Prairie. No stones were located for the Riggs listings. Additionally,
some stones previously recorded are no longer there, or are sunk below
ground.
