Directions
Melpine Cemetery is on a corner with a main entrance from each road.  Travelling east on Highway 61, look for mile marker #98.  Turn left at Mile 98 and go north to the first intersection.

This listing is a combination of WPA listings, a survey found in the Musser Library (undated) done by Gale McClean, who passed away in 1981, a survey done in the 1980's by library staff, family records, visitor contributions and newspaper clipping submittals, and my August 1998 visit to Muscatine.  It is intended as a guideline to your research as any compiled data such as this may contain errors.

While I have combined the various listings, I have kept them in the order they were on the McClean survey, which according to the brief information that came with it was initially accompanied by a map of the plots.  This may help in locating graves within the cemetery.  Use your browser's "FIND" function to search for specific names.

Some entries also have email addresses of researchers working on the family of that particular person.  You may wish to consult them for source or additional information.

We have also received the following note regarding a burial at Melpine-
does anyone know who's plot this young man is buried in?

Upon visiting the website concerning Melpine Cemetery, I know of one person that is buried there and may be incorrectly listed as someone else's infant.  My nephew is buried there.  His name is Travis Wayne Ross born 18 January 1981 died 06 April 1981.  If I remember correctly his obituary was in the Muscatine Journal and listed his burial in said cemetery.  He is the son of Rebecca S. Ridenour and Anthony W. Ross.  I know that he was buried in a plot that someone else owned, but I do not know their name.

Thank you for your help.

Dixie Brewer
