This partial listing of burials at Oak Grove began with the Musser Library files. In these files, the staff only listed the older burials from each site, so there are no doubt many not on this list. We then added the MPL list to the lists compiled by the Works Progress Administration. Some names appear on both lists and we have used the WPA listing noting any differences between the two. If an item came only from the Musser list it will be noted as MPL.
Additional listings from obituaries, family history records and family members are added as received and highlighted in red.
Be advised I have found instances where the WPA and the MPL had listed the birth date as the death date or had someone listed as a spouse when they were actually a child of that person. It is therefore recommended that you use this listing only as a guide to names and PLEASE find more reliable information to confirm these entries for your research.
Directions: From Muscatine: Take Highway 22 west out of Muscatine, go about 5 or 6 miles west .Turn left (south) on High Prarie Road, go 2 miles, then turn right (now heading west) on 231st street. Go another 5 or 6 miles and make a left hand turn (south) on Cranston Road. Go 2 miles, then turn right (west) on Oak Grove Road. Follow that road for about one mile, Jeans (Oak Grove) Cemetery is on the left hand side of the road.
Jacob Jeans donated the land for the cemetery, so officially it is Jeans Cemetery, but most of the locals call it Oak Grove, because that is the name of the church that stood across the road for many years. The church burned down back in the 1960s and was never rebuilt.
It is a very nice cemetery, has alot of big evergreen trees, always seems to be a breeze there on the hill and another very unusual thing for this part of Iowa is...it has alot of cactus growing there!!! The Cedar River isnt very far over the hill to the west of the cemetery,,,so it's rather sandy ground. Three generations of my family are buried there, so we go out every year to set out flowers, I always feel very peaceful there.

This beautiful monument
stands just inside the cemetery and pays tribute to the old Church
which stood across from
the cemetery from 1896 until 1963.
