Oak Grove Cemetery
aka Jean's Cemetery
Cedar Twp Section 14
Cranston IA
Sadly, we encounted many stones such as this
as we got toward the top of the hill.
It was clear during the visit that no effort whatsover
was being made by the mowing crew
(consisting of two teenage boys)
to avoid hitting these stones or
to do anything to repair or preserve them.
The area nearest the top of the hill are
where the oldest burials may be found,
and quite a few stones
in similar condition are located there.

This stone of a child William Simmons who died 06 Aug 1864
was found leaning against the fence about 1/2 way up the hill.
It was not mounted in any way and
clearly came from some other part of the cemetery.
