| The Oelwein Area Genealogical Society started in 1973 and is a chapter of the Iowa Genealogical
Society in Des Moines. |

| The Society donates genealogy books, census microfilms and county record microfilms to
the Oelwein Public Library and maintains a genealogy file at the library. |
| |
| Dues are $5 single or $6 family per calendar year. Members do research for others for
a fee. |

| Oelwein Area Genealogical Society Meeting |

| Joan Ford presented the program on the Farleigh Hungerford Castle in Somerset, England
at the Oelwein Area Genealogical Society meeting, Tuesday afternoon. Thomas Hungerford, Joan
Ford's eighteen great-grandfather, fortified the manor house between 1370 and 1382. The castle
is now in ruins. |

| Roy Ortner chaired the meeting. Members told of current research at roll call. |
| |
| Chris Rynhart, Sacramento, California attended the meeting. She is doing research on her
Hayes and Warning family from the Hazleton and Oelwein areas. Some of her other surnames
are King, Knapp, Rummell, Harrington, Minton and Wilkinson. |

| Betty Ralph of Kentucky e-mailed looking for an obituary on William Davis Arthur, born
1857 in Greene County, Indiana and died March 11, 1944 in Randalia. She is also looking for
the death date of his son, Lester Arthur, who died in 1960. |

| The current newsletter from the Iowa Genealogical Society was received. It lists a web
site, iowalandrecords.org/portal/, which
has information from about 1928 to the present on Iowa land records. Not all counties are
yet represented. You have to register for the site but it is free. |

| Refreshements were served by Mardelle Clendenen and Judy Martinez. |
| |
| The next meeting will be June 20 in the community room at Otter Creek Cottages. |
