August H.W. Reuber

August Reuber, born 1866 in Hanover, Germany, son of August and Fredericka Reuber.  August came to America with his parents in 1882 and first lived in Wisconsin, where his father was a shoemaker.

In 1886 August came to Sac County and in 1889 his parents came and they settled on a farm one mile north of Odebolt.  August, Sr. was known as the popcorn king in 1898.  Seven years after landing in this country at the age of twenty-three, he engaged in the popcorn business of Odebolt.  He saw that this industry had great possibilities and, with keen foresight, built up a trade which was second to none in this part of Iowa.  Odebolt was once the popcorn center of the world.

Children of August and Fredericka were Mrs. Henry Lutz; Carl; and August, Jr.

August Reuber, Jr. married Louisa Katherine Rabe in 1891, who was born in Germany and came to America with her parents when five years old. Children born to August, Jr. and Louisa Reuber were Edgar, married Drucilla Freese, and Minnie (Mrs. Erik McKinley Eriksson).

William Rhule

William Rhule and wife, Delilah Cree Rhule, moved from Ida County in the 1890s to the farm now owned by Lloyd Siebrecht [1977].  Their children were Laura (Mrs. Lynch), Anna (Mrs. LaGrange), Charlie, Harry, Scott (for many years a resident of Odebolt vicinity),and Mary (Mrs. Charles Collenbaugh).  The family is now deceased, and Mr. and Mrs. Rhule, Mary and Scott are buried in the Odebolt cemetery.

The Crees owned the farm now owned by Harry Kessler [1977].  They moved to California in 1902.  

Mr. and Mrs. Rhule in their later years lived at 308 South Main in Odebolt.  The house is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Green [1977].

Henry C. Robinson

Henry Clark Robinson, son of William Clark and Harriett Matild [sic] (Hanson) Robinson, was born 1848 in Lee County, Illinois.  In 1874 he married Jeanette Spiller, daughter of Truman and Laura (Peaslee) Spiller, of Lee County, Illinois.

In 1878, Henry C. Robinson and family came to Sac County, Iowa and in March of that year bought eighty acres of prairie land in Clinton Township.  While building their house, which was to be sixteen by fourteen feet, they lived in a hastily constructed shack, which was only eight by sixteen feet.  When they came to this township in 1878 geese and ducks were flying overhead and other game was plentiful and Mr. Robinson often went out and killed wild game for the table.

Mr. and Mrs. Robinson were parents of five children: Harriet (Mrs. Perry); Olden C.; Roscoe; Elmer; and Mary Ellen (Mrs. James Blount).

Mr. and Mrs. Blount have one child Bessie Jeannette (Mrs. Earl Lindquist).

Christian Roth

Christian Roth, born 1848 in Germany, came to America in 1867.  In 1869 he married Mary Engel, born 1850 in Germany.  They lived in Lee County, Illinois.  In 1874 they came to Iowa by train to Vail.  In 1878 they settled on their farmstead southeast of Odebolt after building a two-room house.  They hauled the lumber for the house from Vail, a distance of fifteen miles.  The farm consisted of one hundred sixty acres for which they paid three dollars an acre.  They went to Vail for supplies and had their wheat ground into flour at the mill at Westside.  On these trips it was necessary to ford the Boyer River.  During a heavy blizzard they tied a rope from the house to the barn so as to find the way back to the house, after doing the barn chores.

Mr. and Mrs. Christian Roth were parents of John; Elizabeth (Mrs. Conrad Frank); Walter, died in infancy; Lena (Mrs. John Boerner); Nellie (Mrs. Arthur Eaton); Louis; Mamie, died in childhood; and Oscar, died in infancy.

John Roth married Elizabeth Ripple and they were parents of Bessie (Mrs. Orrie Richardson); Floyd; Roy; and Vern, married Alma Dreesen-Florence Herrig.

Mr. and Mrs. John Boerner were parents of Glen, married Mabel Johnson-Elizabeth McFarland; Earl married Mamie Bonham; Vern, married Alice Waggoner; Wayne, married Miriam Siebrecht; and Ralph, married Bonita Nelson.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eaton's son, Lyle, married Velma Tjaden.

Louis Roth married Minnie Fertig and they were parents of Clarence; Lloyd; Roland; and Anna Marie (Mrs. Melvin Pfannkuck).
