Bright Girl Wins Valuable Prize
In competition with nearly four million bright American boys and girls under the age of fourteen years, Eleanor Groman has shown ability surperior [sic] to any of them as an artist and a writer of verse in a contest recently concluded by the Selz-Schwab Shoe Co., and as a result has been awarded first prize, consisting of a bicycle of excellent make and made especially for her. The contest is one of several conducted by the above named firm in which they offered substantial prizes for the best original drawings submitted by the youths of the nation, and accompanied by appropriate verse. The liberal terms of the contest attracted Eleanor's attention and she at once proceeded to enter. Her subject was that of a dog, a pet of which she is particularly fond. When submitted the drawing, and accompanying poem, was by unanimous decision awarded first place over all the other contestants. The bicycle will be exhibited for a time at W. J. Ahlberg's and then turned over to the little lady. Eleanor is the twelve year old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. Groman and in her school work has long been noted for her mental acuteness.
