Hayes No.8 - Ida County.

description below

Description from Hayes No. 8 (above):  It wouldn't do to call roll in Hayes No. 8 rural school just by using the last name.  If the teacher, Mrs. Doris Hilburn, called Hollander and Aldag, she would have half of her school enrollment answering her.
Seven families are represented in the school which boasts 14 pupils, one of the largest enrollments in county rural schools.
Arriving at the school during the afternoon session, we asked Mrs. Hilburn if classes could be interrupted long enough for us to take a picture.  She was agreeable and the students were called out, after a couple of minutes of hair coming.
From left to right in the photo above are: (back row) Richard Cranston, Joan Aldag, Janice Aldag, Kay Harder and Frank Cranston.  (Center row) Marlene Hollander, Frances Hollander, Patty Harder, Audrey Hollander and Marvin Streck.  (Front row) Douglas Hollander, Jimmy Aldag, Gene Ernst and Dale Wellendorf.
Mrs. Hilburn, in her first year of teaching at the Hayes township school, is from Odebolt.
