It has been reported (Grand-daughter
Mrs. Wilma B. (Fulk) Sawyer, (dec'd) in
1992 to this writer) that the Amity Twp., Section 2 DUNCAN farm
house which still is standing was designed by her Grandmother
Mrs. RACHEL (PINKERTON) DUNCAN and was built by
by her Grandfather Alex. DUNCAN about 1911, there was a
date carved in a piece of wood in the "Grainier", which this writer
played in as a boy, but most of the "out- buildings" have been destroyed
or removed and the only building remaining is the house.
When I visited the homeplace after the funeral of my Grandmother
VERA B. (DUNCAN) WILSON, in 1988.
It is now owned and was occupied by Grandson

My Remembrance of G-Grandfather DUNCANThis writer was only 5 years old when my Great-Grandfather Alex. DUNCAN died, but I still remember when my family visited from Kansas City, Mo. and the old, gentleman in a wheelchair, would tickle my face with his whiskers when I hugged him...prs As a barefoot farm boy, Alex. DUNCAN herded cattle on the section lines of his mother's homestead in Amity Township, Page County, Iowa. Here he saw the exciting new inventions come to the farm home that we take for granted today. The Automobile, the farm truck and tractor, that would replace old "Dobbin", as well as the phonograph, electricity, telephone, radio, rural free delivery and the first graded roads. He was active in his community and was a honest industrious citizen. He loved his family and raised them the Christian way. By his honorable and upright dealings he had the respect of the entire community. (prs) |
