The first PUGHs to come to this country of whom we have any record were among the early founders of Pennsylvania, who arrived only a few years after Penn's original Colony and settled in Chester and Philadelphia Counties, as follows:
Ellis PUGH, b. at Grath Gowen, Quaker ministe; wife, Sinah, from Dongelly, Merioneth, Wales. Arrived, 1687. Settled in Rodnor Township, chester, co., Pa. Later in Plymouth, Phildaelphis co; d. 1718. Had a son John and others sons. (see letter of A.H.PUGH) Mrs. Ellis McClure, Miss Georgia B. PUGH and others.
William PUGH, "Friend" of near Dongelly, Merioneth Wales. Yoeman, removed to Pa. 1688, wife, Kathering. Child, Ann, b. in Wales.
Robert PUGH, of near Bala, Co. Merioneth, Yoeman, removed to Gwynedd, Pa., 1698. Church of England. Freeholder of 200 acres in Gwynedd. Wife, Sarah, daughter of Evan Lloyd Evan of Ucheldre. Children: Sarah, who married Samuel Bell; Mary, Who married Roland Roberts, Evan, who married Mary and removed to VA., sonn after 1698. Ellen, married jJohn Rogers (They were the ancestors of the Capon Valley PUGHs).
William PUGH, Church of England, from Bala Merioneth, Wales. Yoeman. Removed to Radnor, Pa. befor 1700. Freeholder there. Wife unknown. Children, William and others, d. 1708.
David PUGH of Radnor, Pa. before 1701, and Freeholder of 174 acres, constable and supervisor before 1703. Wife, Catherine. Children Jonathan and others, and Hannah, who married James Miles.
Evan PUGH, Church of England, of near Bala, Merioneth, Wales. Removed to Gwynedd, Pa. 1698. which seems to indicate that Robert PUGH and his son Evan, removed from the same place in Wales and settled at the some time and place in Pa., where Evan was a Freeholder before going to VA.. His wife's mane was Mary, according to some genealogists, which may have been a second marriage.
From [REF:#45] Chapter II, Pg27Second Generation! 1. Sarah Jr PUGH; (1st d/o Robert,1 & Sarah (EVAN) PUGH) b. __ ___ 1680 in Wales She married first to
RFEF: 45 Maude writes: Evan AP EVAN was "Evan LLoyd EVANS", Episocpal Bishop of Wales. Sarah (EVANS) PUGH was a doughter if his second wife. [Not /names]
They (this EVAN Family), have traced their family back to MADOE or Madog. Welsh Prince MSDOC, as you know from the Encydlopedia Britanica, was first discoverer of America, 1170.
He was lost on his second voyage but left colonists from the first voyage in Mexico.
(His father was Owen GWYNEDD in whose honor the old town og Gwynedd in Pennsylvania was named.) These Colonist are sought to have intermarried wuth the MAYAS of Mexico.
