It is bounded by the Ohio State line on the north; Pleasants Co., on the East; Ritchie and Wirt Counties on the South; and Jackson Co., on the West.

On the August 28, 1803 The grand jury returned into court with the following presentments and indictments, to-wit; Samuel Pugh, Jr., [a19y] for swearing seven profane oaths within two months last past; Evan Pugh, [a17y] for swearing nine profane oaths within two months last past."> [REF:#48]

Be it remembered that on the 10th day of May in the year of our Lord 1809 and in 33d year of the independence of the United States of America Evan Pugh, [a23y] of the county of Wood, Labour and Samuel Pugh Sr., [a51y] of the said county yeoman came before me George D. Avery one of the commonwealths justices of the peace for the county of Wood and severally acknowledged themselves to be indebted to John Tylor Governor or chief magistrate of the commonwealth of Virginia and his successors that is to say
Evan Pugh in the sum five hundred Dollars and the said Samuel Pugh Sen. in the sum five hundred Dollars Dollars each to be respectively severed off of their lands and tenements goods and chattels if the said Evan Pugh shall make default of the condition under written
The conditions of this recognizance is such that if the above bound Evan Pugh shall personally appear before the commonwealth justices assigned to keep the peace on Tues. ______ to answer to the commonwealth aforesaid for and concerning a charge of larceny where with he stands charged before me and to do and receive what by the said court shall then and their be ordered and adjudged and shall not depart therein without the leave of the said court then this recognizance shall be void else remain in full force and virtue acknowledged before me this 10th day of May 1809

Whereas Benjamin Henry of Wood County blacksmith hath this day made information and complaint upon oath before me George D. Avery one of the commonwealth justices of the peace for the sd. (said) county that on or about the twentieth day of February 1807 divers goods of him the said Benjamin Henry to wit
" one pair of Bellows leathers " have feloniously been stolen, taken and carried away from the blacksmith shop of him the said Henry in the county aforesaid and that he has just cause to suspect and doth suspect that Evan Pugh, [a23y] son of Samuel Pugh. Sen. [a51y] of said county labourer feloniously did steal, take and carry away the same.
These are therefore to command you forth with to apprehend him the said Evan Pugh and to bring him before me to answer unto the sd. (said) information and complaints & to be further dealt with according to law Herein jail you note given under my hand at sd (said) County of Wood the 16th day of May 1809.

The Wabash River follows the entire west side of the county, and known as the Wabash Valley When Fountain County was formed in 1826 it consisted of only five Civil Townships; Shawnee, Troy, Richland, Wabash and Cain.
