OBITUARIES IN THE LAURENS PUBLIC LIBRARY

THE OBITUARY FILE IN THE LAURENS PUBLIC LIBRARY CONTAINS OVER 7100 NAMES WITH POCAHONTAS COUNTY CONNECTIONS.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN - Members of the Laurens Genies began clipping and collecting obituaries and other items of genealogical importance from local and area newspapers for reference purposes. Through the cooperation of the Laurens Public Libary, filing space was made available for this collection. Many hours were spent during the early months of 1990 applying the clippings to paper. Several friends of the Laurens Genies helped with the project both gluing and alphabetizing the volume of paper. In 1991 the indexing and filing portion of the project was accomplished. The Laurens Genies have updated the file in 1997 and 1999. Index updates will be continued periodically.

A guide for using the obituary index and file is available for your use in the library.

This OBITUARY INDEX is shared for reference with several other area libraries. Below you will find a sample page showing what you will find in the obituary index. We hope to add more of the index to this site in the future.
