A mystery which began over four years ago has finally been solved. The Pottawattamie County Genealogical Society posted a photo on the internet in June of 1997, seeking information on the descendants of Louise Werninger and Ralph Bland. In mid-December 1997, an inquiry arrived from the owners of the property, who reside in Kansas. After much excitement, the package was finally mailed in January 1998 to Tom Talley, a brother of Louise. The family was delighted to receive original: Civil War documents, school records, marriage certificates, photos and scrapbooks, belonging to Louise and Ralph. And the PCGS was thrilled to return these valuable family heirlooms!
Our society expresses a sincere "Thank You" to the kind and considerate individuals who saved the material from destruction and brought it into our care for protection and preservation. Your foresight and concern is an inspiration to all genealogists and families!!
5. Black bound personal journal of Jerald Swoveland who married Eleanor Jane Owens, November 29, 1941. Journal covers 1935 to 1941.
Wanda Palmer of Oklahoma contacted the PCGS about the journal of Jerald Swoveland. She is Jerry's sister and is very close to his only daughter who lives in Colorado and as of May 2000 was about to become a first-time grandma. Jerry passed away in 1996, but Wanda tells us at the time the journal was written he was young and unmarried. The journal is full of poetry, quotes of the day, etc. The PCGS mailed the journal to Wanda who can't wait to surprise Jerry's daughter with it.
