Excerpts from the 1907 History of Pottawattamie County
The town of Underwood was started simultaneously with the advent of the Rock Island Railroad. In 1907 it had two churches, German Lutheran and Latter Day Saints. The Modern Woodmen and Royal Neighbors had lodges there. The school had 130 pupils of which 72 were males and 58 were females.
