Delaware Township

From: Reflections 1855-1980
Named from Delaware county in eastern Iowa, from which many early settlers came.  The first settler seems to have been Truman Tole, who came from Boonesboro in the spring of 1866 and took up 160 acres two miles south of Nemaha on what is not the Wilson farm.  He remained there until 1903, when he moved to Nemaha.
In the fall of 1866 came Charles Manska who settled on what is not the Hicks farm, one mile south of Nemaha.  Louis Moine also came that fall, settling just south of Mr. Manska's place.  George McGeorge located along the western line of Delaware township, or possibly over the line in Eden.  there were few others to add to that settlement after 1871, when they came more rapidly, continuing until the free and cheap lands were mostly all taken by actual settlers.
The first schools for the township were the terms taught at the edge of Douglas township along the Coon river, where the timber land had been settled for a number of years before the prairie land had been settled.  The village of Schohair was established but was later discontinued.
The first meeting of a religious nature were held by Presbyterians.  The first Sunday school was formed by Mrs. Thurman Tole.
