Cedar Methodist Church ~ The Rural Church of Days Gone By

A Methodist Church was erected in Cedar Township in 1881, to serve the religious needs of the pioneers of the community.  Its location was     3 miles east, 1 1/2 miles north and 1/4 mile east of Sac City, Iowa.  A plot of ground was donated by D.R. Herrold for the church and original    cemetery.  Lumber for the church was floated down the Cedar River from Fonda, Iowa and the work was donated by the  pioneers.

Pastors who served the church were usually students attending Morningside College and coming weekends to minister to both the Cedar         church and also the Coon Valley Country church which was located 3 1/2 miles south on highway 196.

After fulfilling its divine purpose, The Cedar church was dismantled in 1952.  The Cedar Cemetery which adjoined the original church has been enlarged to three times its original size   It now contains approximately four acres.
