That
dapper fellow in front is "Himself", Frank Leslie Clendenen. {I
like to call him "Dancing Frank"} He and wife Lena were born in Cass
Co. MI, {Frank -1864, Lena-1870} but moved first to Clinton Co. IA by 1890-91,
then on to Scott Co. I don't know how long they remained in Scott
Co. but do know that they were on to "bigger & better" by 1910,
when they had moved to St. Louis, MO to open the "Clendenen School of
Artistic Dance". {la de da}
Lena's family also moved to Clinton Co./ Scott Co. around the same time and
remained in the area. I believe that they returned to Scott Co. in the
late 1920-30s {but can't find them yet, but they do not own the dancing school
in St. Louis by 1930.}, as Lena died in 1936 in Davenport and was buried in
Oakdale Cemetery in the same Lot/Sec as her parents & siblings. {William B.
Flanigan family} Frank died in 1940 and was also buried there.
It turns out that Frank Clendenen was "relatively" famous during his
time. He wrote 5 books on dance which can be found :
