Cemetery List (By Area)

This page contains a list of all the major cities/areas in the Dubuque County area. Under each one is the list of all known cemeteries (past and present) and any known aliases in that area.  The reason to organize cemeteries in this way is because there may be several cemeteries in a general area and our ancestors didn't necessarily make sure they were buried in the same township they lived in. They may have crossed a township line to bury a relative and this may not be immediately obvious with just township demarcations. Just another way to look at the data.

As cemeteries are read by those in the Phoenix Project the information will be posted here. Digital photos of some of the stones and pictures around the cemetery will also be taken. If you are interested in a map of how to get to a cemetery that we've read, drop us a note and we'll send you a map.

As always, this list is subject to error and you are encouraged to read the stone personally. Kudos go to my mom who helped create this list over many years of genealogical research in the Dubuque County area. As more cemeteries are read, the information will be posted.

You may want to check here for possible additional information on locating these cemeteries and perhaps additional cemetery readings.

If a cemetery name has a hyperlink, it is linked to a page with a transcription of the stones in the cemetery. All transcriptions are full cemetery transcriptions and not just names in our personal research. Every cemetery that has been transcribed also has digital images available (although they may not be posted). If you would care for the images, let us know and I'll either post them or send them to you.
