Cemetery Gravestone Research

Members of the Van Buren County IA Genealogical Society will do on-site "photo lookups" for those with ancestors buried in Van Buren Co. cemeteries. Proceeds from this project go towards cemetery restoration projects, transcription expenses and other efforts related to Van Buren County genealogy records preservation. A $10 donation to the Genealogical Society includes a digital photo of the gravestone requested along with a transcription, if readable. Both will be emailed to you for saving to your own PC and the photo will also be placed online on your behalf as a way of honoring your ancestor. See Gravestone Photo Project. A second stone in the same cemetery will by photographed at no additional charge. If you do not know where your ancestor is buried in Van Buren county, we will research that for you as well and this service is included as a part of your donation. Please provide as many details as possible. There are over 100 cemeteries in Van Buren County. Not all are easily accessible or are in such deteriorated condition that locating stones may not be possible. Please also allow sufficient lead time for the season and distance. Van Buren Co.
